Gotta love that Spanish Moss! REally addds to the mood of the photo.
I particularly like the one with the Whitish flowers/leaves in the foreground.

And the Spider. To me it's not about the spider, it's about..."fear of the dark"..Really neat, almost sureal...

More coming from me shortly..

Cool - gotta love the shroom pics - they have so much character...

Here's that other spider pic I was talking about - the little guy was getting pissed and started shaking his web for me to get outta there...I think it sorta looks like some creepy parasite or flea that's been magnified and put under a neon light...

Here's another one from Maclay...I love to photograph dead flowers when I come across them, but I thought it was cool that I could get a dead and living on in this frame, so I toned down the contrast a bit and made it a little more moody than your average daisy photo...

Enron,

The Spider, did the Web have a zig-zag pattern in it?
I think he was telling you not to break the Web!
Orb weaver spiders do this..really cool to watch.

Looks like your camera has a Macro setting?
I like taking close ups as well...
I have some pics of Ants faces I'll post..

Hey, I can't find the ants!
I've got another creepy pic however, goes with the spider theme..
This guy showed up when I was about to take a hike into the forest, near my moms house..It's an Eastern Black Snake..Very agressive, not really dangerous to humans, but a pushy snake!

Still no ants, but I found another insect. This huge moth, flew past my head and landed on the house. If you size him up, he's got the wingspan the size of a standard brick!..8 inches I think,,I thought it was a friggin bat !

Hey guys mind if I join in.

Some shots from the other night around London.

Battersea Power Station. ( Now disused )

Canary Wharf from Surrey Docks. I love the little park dead center, dwarfed by the buildings.

Smudge,

Way cool! I really like the first one.
Looks like the opening shot from a movie, where the evil professor may be doing his secret experiments.
Tell me about the shot..The technicals?

I'm loving that second pic smudge...awesome stuff!

BTW - I changed the title to better reflect what me and spacedoubt hoped this thread would become...

Also, as a side note...to keep us from having to side-scroll the page, try and keep the width of your image at 800 pixels.

Here's a few more of mine...

This one is another picture from a little German town known for its architecture...Rothenburg ob der Tauber

This is from a tour-boat boardng dock in Lake Chiemsee, Germany

Thanks fellas, I've been watching this thread a while waiting for a chance to get something worth posting, you've put some cool pics up yourselves I like the snake and the earlier sunset pics especially. I'm pretty new to photography proper and the more I learn, the more there seems to learn its a great subject especially with the advent of digital cameras. I'm using a Canon 300d 18-55mm lens or sometimes a 50mmf1.4.

1st Power Station
21mm lens
ISO 400
Shutter speed 1 second
Aperture f3.5

The 2nd Battersea Power Station shot is
18mm lens
ISO 400
Shutter speed 5 seconds
Aperture f5.0

Canary Wharf
55mm lens
ISO 400
Shutter speed 2 seconds
Aperture f6.3

The slow shutter speed in the second allows enough light in that a flash is not necessary. Also because the river is moving through the shot it appears smooth, compared with the first shot where the shutter speed was only 1 second and there is more visible texture.
Although the first shot has a faster shutter speed it is still light enough because the aperture is wider f3.5, this creates a shallower depth of field so less of the shot is in focus.

Enron,
What kind of building is that first German pic? Looks like a Christmas card..

ok, I guess I'm up now....

These are from desert run I made with my wife, just northeast of Vegas.
Not Far from Valley of Fire...BUt, off the beaten path.

I saw a pattern in the first one..what do you see...no fair cheating!

The second one is another sandstone formation, beautiful layering, I thought..

It's been so long...lol...here's some info I found on that area on the net tho...it would make a cool christmas card, wouldn't it!

The Rothenburg Imperial Castle (Circa 1142) Was Located In What Is Today Called The Castle Garden. The Castle Was Destroyed In The Earthquake Of 1356. The Only Surviving Building, The Prison Was Rebuilt (Circa 1400) By Mayor Toppler Into The Chapel Of St. Blaise. The Burgtor (Circa 1356) Or Castle Gate Leads From The Chapel And Garden Into Rothenburg Town. It Features Two Round Guard Houses (16 Century), A Mask Through Which Rothenburg Defenders Would Pour Hot Tar On Enemies, And The Eye-Of-The-Needle Door Within A Door.

I had forgotten about the beautiful little garden right off to the side of that picture - I'll have to find some of my more clement weather pictures of that area and see if I have any good shots of the garden area...

Those fromations are beautiful...they make such perfect photos...When I first saw the top one I thought of the little alien guys from Mars Attacks...lol - I love the second one and how you can see the distant mountains in the background...a lot of depth perception going on in that pic...

Actually I was surprised that I was able to submit multiple pics in most of the contests...

Here's some of the ones I submitted...I think one or two of them I havn't posted here yet, but I'll post them when I get home later...

I can still submit one more pic under "travel" in the Smithsonian contest...I'm thinking about maybe using the Rothenburg castle wall picture that I was talking about above...

Actually its a Black Cab at 1 second shutter speed. Cool though ehh. I'm gonna try it again tomorrow with a slower speed.

Plasma, the cow shot is cool, where in the world are you?

Enron, I love the Butterfly shot, but I think that if you have enough resolution in the image you should try cropping down a bit tighter around the flower. But very nice shot.

Thanks...I considered doing that before, but was unsure about the acceptence of cropped photos...but I've cropped it bellow for a close-up...those butterfly shots are just pure luck man - those things fly off in a heart-beat...

That taxi pic is nutty! I love that angle too...

Sweet pics plasmamorph...I'm wondering the same question as Smudge - where is that?! South America? Central??

Here's a few more...

Here's that close-up...

Another butterfly from a different day of shooting...

This is my best friend's dads pit...Lucy - she's a tough one to get still - lol

Another shot from Maclay Gardens...

And this is the one I entered into the Smithsonian "Americana" contest...I doubt it will even come close to winning, but I think it says a lot about America being such a simple picture...I dunno...
