Toyota recalls top 5.3 million vehicles

 The latest addition to the recalls was announced Wednesday, with 1.1 million vehicles added to the 4.2 million recalled in November to fix a
problem in which the gas pedal can become caught on the edge of the removable floormat, causing the vehicle to accelerate

This is insane, Toyota get your crap together, stop just shelling out cars , without quality, and get back to making quality cars, stop cutting the
jobs of the testers and inspectors, so we can be sure we are driving safe cars, i mean recalling 5.3 million vehicles is unacceptable, i mean a simple
fix such as uncontrollable acceleration, is worth putting the money into fixing, instead of losing lives

I really see no reason why this should be in breaking news. Having worked in the automotive industry (for a subsidiary of GM in Europe), I can tell
you this event is far from unique.
I will tell you something else. Toyota builds the worlds most reliable cars in the world. However, that doesn't mean that these kind of recalls do
not happen rarely. Engineers are also human beings and hence, are also able to make (expensive) mistakes.

GM is now offering a $1000 incentive for Toyota owners to switch brands.
Hmmm.... makes you wonder a little. This is a conspiracy site afterall  Nothing like a little industrial espionage!!

GM doesn't exactly have a good track record when it comes to recalls.
The problem with the gas pedal originated with the contract manufacturer of the pedal itself. The floormats may not have even been a factor in the
problem.
This reminds me of the sudden acceleration problem that Audi had with its 5000 series sedans a number of years ago.

Ford sucks, Chevy is terrible now, the only cars i like right now are toyota, and VW

If you like plastic, then American cars are number one. If you have some style and want some serious quality, you buy German.

Ford Fusion, Taurus, and Mustang seem to be doing very well. As are the Chevy Impala, Camaro, and Corvette. GM has a very good line of SUV's as well
and Ford Trucks always are tops.
I think the US cars today are as good if not better than Jap cars in most categories...

Based on your Avatar, I would have you pegged for a well engineered German car to go with that Bratwurst.
I gave up on the big 3, especially GM, after my third transmission in a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix. I never looked back. I have had great luck with
Honda, Toyota, VW, Mazda and especially Subaru ever since. Never ad issue beyond routine service.
I will say that Ford has made some strides in recent years and has actually turned a profit without the help from Uncle Sam.
GM scares me right now because they are accountable to absolutely no one. GM will not survive much longer.

German cars tops in latest ADAC Breakdown Statistics
Reliability is the main concern for most car buyers, and for obvious reason - for such a large investment, the car better start up and take you where
you need to go. And while all brands have their issues, it turns out German cars fared best this time around, mirroring last year's results.
The turnaround is something of an upset, since Japanese cars dominated most of the previous decade in reliability surveys. The Germans have
definitely upped their game, however, with Audi at the leading edge. The Audi A2, A3 and A6 all ranked tops in their classes, though Mercedes-Benz's
C-Class just edged out the Audi A4 in the mid-size sedan class.
BMW's cars also showed well, with the X3 taking its class, the 3-series convertible and coupe taking the sports car/convertible class and the
5-series ranking second behind the A6 in the large sedan class.
Japanese brands were nearly absent from many lists, getting only one car in the top 5 in any class - the Toyota Aygo, which placed second behind the
A2. The bottom rungs of the classes weren't all Japanese either, however, with Korean, French and U.S. brands taking most of the lower rungs,
especially Ford, Opel, Renault and Hyundai.
The ADAC Breakdown Statistics information is compiled by analyzing the 2.46 million qualifying call-outs of the ADAC roadside assistance team for the
calendar year 2008. To be considered, a vehicle must have been manufactured between 2003-2008, registered in volumes of at least 10,000 in Germany and
largely unchanged for at least the past three years - ruling out brand-new cars' effect on the previous model's statistics.

It's quite a shame really. I was considering buying a Toyota truck but not anymore. If you want quality buy Chrysler.
