What I think it is, is some posters may feel or sense things which my be about to pass and they tend to get energized with what they feel and attempt
to share the infrmation as best as they can. Me I personally try not to speak on anything I personally may feel for its not my place to but if
something keeps on comming thru I wouldnt be afraid to share it. Now with this marking system it may deter some which may have extra senses from
posting something that may be of MAJOR CONCERN so I dont think marking them is a good idea mabey just u2u them and let them know that was not a cool
prediction and tell them to post more accurate next time FORCING THEM TO CONCENTRATE MORE on what they may be feeling.

I dunno. They're quite fun sometimes. The sad fact is that these seers don't seem to learn from the Pop-Prophets like Nostradamus. The more insanely
vague the prediction is, the more it generates interest until you become immortalized even though what you're spewing is just a steaming pile of
bull.
Let me take a shot at this one:
"Darkness shall arise in the land of fire in the time of great knowledge. Many shall perish. There shall be great weeping and sorrow for the great
beast of terror has arrived".
EDIT:
Sprinkle in some ye olde English tongue and ye have soundeth more prophet-liketh.

Well, you obviously don't understand. This would mearly make members aware if a thread they are looking at has been made by someone with a proven
history of failing at making predictions therefore making said member less likely to grant it attention therefore cutting down on the clutter on the
forum.
You're being just a little bit over dramatic and I don't think for a second that most of these threads are born from wanting protect anyone else but
from want for attention.
[edit on 25-1-2010 by Chonx]
making members aware is the essence of prediction threads. if they fail, they don't matter, and will be forgotten quickly (if you REALLY need to be
sure, i'm sure a 15 second google search can prove or disprove if a prediction came true or not. no, a nuke didn't erase DC, but the person who
started all that had good intentions). if the same member makes a similar thread, they'll get banned or soemthing for trolling/spamming etc..
you're not handling this correctly.
and over dramatic is branding a scientist who's experiment failed and should therefore never be taken as seriously ever gain, exactly what your idea
would do. any member with your mark would most likely just be completely ignored when who knows, they took a step back to look at their data and
discovered the exact prediction and was correct but nobody listened cause he had a mark next to his name.

The problem is, would it be fair to single those out when there is so much BS all around?
What I think would be quite entertaining would be for a 'Failed Predictions' log at each month end. Which would single out habitual offenders!
However, too much work for the site no doubt.
Let's face it, cutting out BS also cuts out some of the entertainment factor

oh and let's not forget that this is a conspiracy themed website.
it goes without saying that any thread or topic disucssed could end up being total BS, even if we think we have all the facts.

free speech within the terms and conditions of the website.
This wouldn't affect free speech as it wouldn't stop anyone from posting again after recieving a 'mark', they'd still be free to speak (within
the T&C).
and your analogy is again over-dramatic. The real-life consequences for a member in this position are minimal.

I predict the beyond a shadow of a doubt, 100%, no room for error, that you will win the biggest lottery jackpot in the history of the Earth
tomorrow.
now unless you are a speed reader, there is approximately 3.5 seconds of your life were just wasted reading the above sentence. Time is money. You
will never get that time back.
I am all for a good time and some fun, but nobody can predict anything 100% and the only reason they would put a thread like that up, is to be a
points whore and attempt to get a 5 to 6 page thread of people bashing them for being an idiot. I say take away the one thing they are trying to get.
Or make them think twice before wasting anyones time with some garbage.

i didn't just randomly blurt out that piece you quoted as if you're trying to take away the rights of free speech on ATS, i meant it as a
declaration into the remedy and recourse for any further threads, if they are predictions, and come true or not, someone shoudn't have to worry about
being ignored because they were wrong in the past and keeping important info bottled up, because we deal with a lot of paranoid issues and i can
understand someone being self-concious to flesh out a prediction to the skeptics of ATS.
and i'm almost certain that i could just say it but i'm guessing you want the feature more than anything to use it to avoid the threadstarters
altogether once you enter a curiously titled thread.

I can see what you mean but I think that if someone has, in the past posted a failed prediction, then they should worry about being ignored and nine
times out of ten there is no important information in those threads.
If someone, even after recieving a 'mark', made a predictive thread which truely made impressive insights, people could then choose to look past the
'mark' and join the disscusion.

i'll be honest i'm totally oblivious to the whole points thing here on ATS, what does that even do?
at any rate, you're doing the right thing by a)being concerned by the title enough [to] b) take the time to read it. even if it is nonsense and you
only read part of the OP, and the usual second, smarmy post that negates the first and gets all the stars, you still did yourself a favor by wanting
to be prepared, and i had family members who were ready for a nuke to blow up in DC and just did a few things differently in their day to day that
could have helped them out quite a bit had something of that nature occured that weekend.
so as much as you can't be correct a 'fail prophet' is incorrect, were all predicting a lot of things here on ATS by the nature of conspiracies.

Wow, really? Having a warning on an avatar? And let me get this right, you think it should mark people who have been wrong on a website that is FULL
of personal opinions and commentary on the current events of our world? Just because a prediction is wrong, dosen't mean the person is wrong or their
next guess either. All that was wrong was the assumed knowledge of the prediction.
And more to the point, who are you to say 'Hey we need an early warning system to keep us informed on what so and so said in the past'. (sound oddly
familiar, ehh). I can do my own research, I can put 1 and 1 together. I do NOT need some group of people who may not agree with what I am saying to
put a LABEL on me, my avatar or my ideas (again with the voice of recognition).
Granted we all need to be WELL informed about the twists and turns of the events of the day, but to mandate a warning to others of the POSSIBILITY of
a future wrong prediction based on PERSONAL OPINION of observed facts is a slippery slope.
If there needs to be a warning, I'll have the first one. Let it read:
This user has many passions, opinions and ideas. This user has been wrong before, and will probably be wrong again...JUST LIKE THE REST OF US.

What everyone seems to be missing is what is written at the top (of) every page in the Predictions and Prophecy forum:
This forum is for the discussion of published clairvoyant predictions from contemporary psychics and "prophets" as well as ancient prophecies
and prognostications. This forum is not intended as a venue to post your personal predictions.
Personal predictions from member do not belong here and, when found, should be alerted so that they may be moved to the
Dreams and Personal Predictions forum..
In fact, that is where this thread belongs, since the topic deals with member predictions.

I agree with you. Some paste the same prediction in a different way about every week, usually from the same old tv show. Of course, if they were true
then we would not be here anyway.

Hey there, throw stones a lot? I did read the thread, thank you for your assumption that I did not.
Reason dosn't make it right. The correct reason for one person is not the correct reason for another, to step around that point. And again with the
warning, who are you, or anyone for that matter, to say that someone should be digitally marked on a website that is all about OPEN discourse of
sometimes unpopular opinions and educated guesses based on personal perceptions of facts. To hide behind the idea that this warning is for those who
claim to be clairvoyant and miss is like claiming that running an ad before the weather stating this meteorologist has been wrong several times
before, is acceptable...except this isn't the news.

I really think this is exaggerated in many people's minds. I don't see it anything more then an extension of the warning system which is already in
place. If someone makes a post or thread which violates the T&C's, they get a warn mark which can be seen on their avatars. If they produce a
personal prediction with a specific date and event which does not happen, they get an appropriate and similar mark.
It would not mean that they would get ignored as other members would still be able to look past it if they choose.
It would not infringe their rights to free speech as it wouldn't stop them from posting another bogus prediction thread.
It would highlight for the rest of us, at a glance, that this member has, in the past, posted a prediction thread which has failed.
By the tone of the majority of the responses which this thread has gotten, I'd say this is not a very popular idea anyway.
Was just an idea which I thought (and still think) has merit and would be useful.
oh, and sorry if you were offended by me saying that you didn't read the thread, that was not my intention.

Its funny that you want to be able to make predudice preconceptions about someone because they have made one error.
