Name That Movie By Quote - ATS Chat Room Game

Hi everyone!

This morning I started a game in ATS chat room called "Name that movie by quote"

It seemed to be very popular there.

Basically, one starts with a quote from a movie and others guess which movie the quote is in.

For example:

"Do or do not. There is no try"

Answer: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

There were few rules at the beginning. The rules became more refined and new rules are added as we played. For example, the average age in the group seems to be 30. Maybe 20 to 40 usually so naturally the movies are limited to those from the 80's and 90's.

Tentative rules:

1. Honor system - that means NO googling! (time limit has not been worked out yet)

2. Hints are allowed but a point will be deducted from the number of players participating in the game.

3. The first person that give the correct answer will receive a reward and will receive a turn to give a quote.

4. The movies have to be from 1980-1995 (that can change) due to the age range. Famous movies from any year can be included.

The reward right now is starring and flagging (maybe posting) your thread of your choice.

This is just tentative. The rules are not complete of course. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

There is some difficulty in creating a rule for when no one can give the correct movie name (whether everybody gave up or the time limit expires). Should the quote giver receive a reward or not? Im A Marty said anybody could make it really hard and earn easy points or rewards. Should a turn be given to the next player?

Maybe this game will evolve to include conspiracy theories and such. Maybe "Name That Conspiracy Theory"

Im A Marty made a suggestion in the chat room that I create a thread where everyone can participate in the game. The real difficulty is the honor system. How do we know when someone is cheating?

LAUGHING-CAT made a suggestion that one can post a quote with blanks. Others can fill in and guess the movie. That will make googling difficult.

Also, after some discussion in the chat room, "Name That Conspiracy Theory" isn't a bad idea.

It doesn't have to be limited to movies. It can be books, interviews, etc.

For example:



Answer: William Cooper in "Behold a Pale Horse".

It's harder to google.

Yes you are correct, I wanted to start the ball rolling with an easy one, believe me the next time I get one it won't be easy at all.

Keep em comin! I like this game.

It works alot better in chat. After it started we all played like this for about 6 hours.... LIVES No you must of meant to go next door we have no lives here.

But it was fun... Both getting it right and stumping everyone else...

I would say if you have given more than 5 hints... (Good hints at least one great hint) call it and let the stumper name the prize. IE star or flag or Read this a leave a well thought comment.

I still cant believe that after I gave all those hints for clerks you guys did not imminently snap too when I started giving clerks two quotes.
