Window Movie Maker and Youtube Videos

Topic started on 31-5-2009 @ 07:47 PM by TheMythLives

Hey, I was curious if anyone knew how to import youtube videos to Movie Maker. I have tried changing the video format to .avi and .wmv and nothing seems to work. It keep saying I am missing a codec, but what codec am I missing?

Anyone know what can be done?

Thanks,
~TheMythLIves

I don't know.

I would guess that you would have to somehow download the youtube video to your computer. Then from there you should be able to import it to movie maker from your videos section...

Just a guess though, I have never tried....

You have to convert the video to a format supported by Windows Movie Maker.

Try Avidemux, it's free and it can convert almost all YouTube videos to AVI.

if you ever figure out that codec thing, please share what you found out because i am having the same problem

you would think somebody would make a program that does all this for you.

changing formats , codecs, resizing , different players

Did you renamed the file to .AVI or .WMV?

If you did that is the reason, YouTube videos (and most videos we can see on sites like DiscloseTV or the useless ATS Media Portal) are Flash video, and AVI and WMF formats have nothing in common with that format.

Another thing you can do is use this site to download YouTube videos, for most videos you will get the option of downloading a MP4 version that not only will look better but may also give you less problems.

Free video conversion software and the codec pack you need

...Best Free Audio / Video Format Conversion Programs...

...K-lite codec pack (1st)...

Plus the update after you choose your flavor of codec pack

...Update for codec pack(2nd)...

These should resolve any problems your having.

Have fun TML.
