I'm in exactly the same boat as you foffstarr... I love and enjoy music but when it comes to reading it or bars quavers and double hip drop loops on the fly, i got no idea..

What i've got is as you describe.. 'look what i can do with this'... I dont have the kit or tools to do full finalising, but it is the atmosphere in the mood of the tracks that I am trying to focus on rather than a perfect song.. although both would be nice..

Well, here's my effort.. all three songs... and as you'll see, they tie in with each other.. so it's an abreviated album really

ATSMC1 The Wrath of the Star riders

I used JamStudio online to lay the majority of the tracks and to help me get the feel of what I was supposed to be getting..

Then i grabbed a few little extra free sounds readily available from the net.. and slotted it all together with Magix music maker basic

Can anyone guess what major piece of music influenced me to create these in this manner?

Thanks for the compliment... but I really have not done this before.. like i said in an earlier post, i got a good ear for music but no idea about writing it..

Star wars is a film with a soundtrack.. my influence is purely musical...

No, I don't want to use this song, I just tried, how things work with that one. But I did not think, that an old traditional melody could be against the rules.

I will delete it immediately.

I don't know how to transfer a specific cut from our site to the media site so here is our stuff anyway. I know this will not enter me in the contest but at least we get some exposure.

Some technical help would be appreciated on the media transfer.

For the 'sci-fi-retro-sound', I dialed up an approximation of a Theremin tone on the MS2000, added some portamento and linked the first oscillator pitch to a high rate LFO for the vibrato effect. Finally, I padded it out with some light strings. Glad you liked it mate!
