Topic started on 18-3-2009 @ 06:23 PM by Damien_uk

Iv just read on AOL news that an English postmaster has said he wont serve anybody who cant speak English.

That's funny, certain areas of London I (a born English speaker) gets refused service from the guy who was asleep on the counter in the 24 hour petrol station... All I wan't is a flipping Ginsters pasty!! In fact I will have any thing from that god damn fridge over there!!! It's 4:30 and the whole night's work has gone south, I'm going to have to work my butt off right up till about 9am where after I have to drive 45 mins to the office and then 45 mins home to bed!!!

For the love of god!!! whichever one! your choice I would peeeeaaassseee like a Ginsters pasty and a cold can, you get paid nearly as much as I do per hour!

Reply: 'Petrol? Pump number?' (No vehicle is near any pump m )

Me: 'PPPPAAAASSSSTTTTYYYY' (Pointing emphatically at the fridge)

Reply: 'Petrol? Pump number?'

stress levels raised, belly empty but at least the counter assistant can go back to sleep and dream of sunsets in a foreign land

I think in general the postmaster is refering to people claiming benefits and asking questions about things that would imply they are living here full time.

You can't be a postmaster without a good deal of common sense... I can't see him refusing to help tourists and genuine people. Remember he see's some of the same faces week in and week out.

Yeah I guess your right. I do come across people with heavy accents and broken english, it's not often I come accross non english speakers, also I'm suprised how quick some of them learn it!

But I guess working in the postoffice you end up communicating more with these non english speaking people (trying lol), and I can see his problem.

Ironic that this postmaster was "moved" to a different branch shortly after his decision.

Personally I think he should just stare blankly at all non english speakers and shrug his shoulders.

I live in a non-english speaking country and would NOT expect my local post office to converse in english.

I'm one of the GOOD immigrants... ..I don't sponge freebies and don't expect special treatment.
