I found this yesterday. If you live in the US or Canada you can get a free copy of the new 'Recovery' version of the NT.

I almost forgot, I have a parallel version bible. It's King James Version and NIV as well. Both versions are side by side on the page, so it makes it
easy to look at either version. You can find something like that if you can't make up your mind.
Click here to see an example of this Bible.

I find it rather funny that fundamentalists swear by the
King James bible, when he was in fact bisexual and had
open relationships with men. He was married and had
children, but he is also buried with two of his favorite
male lovers on either side of him and he frequently
kissed his male lovers passionately while at court.

I know that there are so many Bibles to choose from, it can be overwhelming.
Many verses have been changed from version to version. There are word for word translations, such as King James to New King James; then there are the
thought for thought versions, where they translate only the idea that the original author was trying to convey.
Personally, I believe that the New King James is the best of both worlds.
Not too many thee's and thou's, and is still very acurate and easier to read than the original King James.
I do not recommend the NIV, New Living Translation, or "The Message" as the latter two are only paraphrases and are not very accurate.
Let me give you an example of an NIV vs. the origainal King James:
1 John 5:7-8 (New International Version)
7For there are three that testify: 8the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
1 John 5:7-8 (King James Version)
7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
New King James has the correct wording also.
If you wanted to prove the idea of the Trinity, and you had one of the other Bibles, you would be at a loss.
Here's the same passage in "The Message" :
A triple testimony: 8 the Spirit, the Baptism, the Crucifixion. And the three in perfect agreement.
Verse 7 is bearly there at all!!!!
Pray about it, and ask God to guide you in your purchase.
Sincerely, in Christ, Just Me 2

MY wife has a scofield bible.
I've read it all the way through a few times.
What I like about it was the explanations, of regions.
And, what seem to me "unbiased interpretations, of the harder to understand passages" Sometimes giving more than one possible interpretation..
Has anyone used this type of bible?

Know what those RED words of Christ are called? Q
I don't know how it's spelled, but they are called Q
For those who watched Star Trek Next Generation
you will remember that Q was omnipotent. I can't
help but wonder if the writers of Star Trek knew
that and made the connection between the words
in the bible, and the omnipotent character.

i was given a New King James (NKLV) when i became a Christian. i was interested in the versions and decided the that KJV 1611 was the most true of
them all
So i got one of those, and to be honest the the thou etc through me at first, but i will tell you that if i read scripture in another such as the New
International version (NIV) it sounds odd.
i would recommend looking in to the different versions, the translators and their beliefs and come to you own conclusions. In the mean time have a
KJV 1611 and a modern translation and reference one with another.
there is basically two train of thoughts
modern = older manuscripts (debatable) but there are less of them and the percentage of agreement is less
older versions= younger manuscripts (debatable) but more of them and they agree a lot more
there are various arguments for them both. for me though a good read was
Which Bible by Otis fuller.
Just a word, many people will say that a Bible is a Bible, but it isn't. A little study will show you this. Nothing man on earth can do can stop God
fulfilling what he wishes in and through you.
That said never forget that Satan tempted eve and changed Gods words and he tried it again with Christ. Only an idiot would think he isnt trying it
now with the written word.
All the best
David
