We have competitions throughout the year and around specific holidays we have specifically themed competitions. For this one, the specific theme is
Halloween.
If we see some success with this one, maybe we'll run an open themed contest before the holiday season.

Quick question...I know how to make avatars but, just wondering if heavyweight is meaning we create the whole avatar image? ...or to make my self
clearer...if I find an image. crop it out, and add my name or some other font, is that considered lightweight?

I don't expect our members to create an image from scratch. It's perfectly acceptable for you to edit a base image and enter as an image of your
own. However, what you can not do is have someone else do the editing for you and enter it in the heavyweight division. If any edits are required
that are above what any of us feel we are capable, I am happy to make minor adjustments so it fits the listed standard.
Hope that clears it up.
(For what you've said, you can enter it in the heavyweight)

I'd love to compete but I've never used photoshop in my life.
I wouldn't know where to begin.
Poor SDog is ignorant in these matters.

is there a rule which says: competing avvys only made with photoshop?
if so i haven.t read it
on the other hand there is a way to learn it
if you wouldn.t live so far away i would teach you my friend
so maybe - if you got some spare time and fun in doing it - browse the web for some beginning tutorials, or buy a nice book for beginners and follow
it
i know a fantastic photoshop forum, with great tutorial sites, but unfortunately it is all in german, so very useless for you.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion. Good contest. I found two or three people whose entries were over the limits for Avatars. (I U2U'd them to help)
Great job everyone!
I'm gonna go star my favorites
Orange-Light, thanks. I worked very hard on it. I changed it about 50 times to get it in the shape it is now,
We ' artiste wannabes' are a laff riot, huh?
I literally have 'no' photoshop skills, just ability to overlay and edit other images which I searched for long and hard. I did do the ATS logo
myself after studying the work of AshleyD. Ultimately I started over from scratch. The 'ball' was originally a reflective globe showing the solar
system, but I liked the blue energy ball better as it set off a great color counter point.
Yours is nice too - is it a witch diving in a cauldron?
Appreciate the props, since I'm so terrible at is. As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

to my opinion you did very well badge
when i started to work with photoshop i used to blend in pictures like you did - but nevertheless you also have to develope your eye to create the
effects you wanted
yep my current avatar is a witch flying into a cauldron.
when i got a theme i work differnt avvys or wallpapers on it
amazing good stuff here

I like it , very nice badge, and thanks for u2uing me .
I'm useless in photoshop, have you tried using fireworks before? it has a really nice vector tool to draw complicated shapes then add fills in them,
they end up looking really good

I Really like yours fill0000, its simple and blends well, gradients are rather hard to double up on my program, thus making a metal effect
difficult...
