*~*peace be upon those who accept the path of guidance*~*
well hello there fellow members!
as i LOVE all things natural and going back to the traditional remedies and products, i thought i would share some things for the girls (and guys) who
may also be interested!
pioneerthinking.com...
^ THIS is a BRILLIANT website! it is full of "make your own" beauty products (body scrubs, skin care, shampoo and conditioner, perfume PLUS cooking,
healthy body, advice etc)
the products are usually made from things that most people have lying around (for example, face scrubs using oats, milk and honey/sugar and other such
simple things you can throw together!) thus you can make NATURAL beauty things which REALLY WORK for your skin AND it will only cost you a few pence!
(especially if you have the things lying around already!)
also, in islaam we refer back to many things known as "the prophetic medicine" which are extensive reports of remedies for headaches, tumors, colds
and flu, fever and many other things!
one of the MAJOR tings we muslims rely upon by The Grace of The Almighty is the blessed seed, the blackseed.
it has been used for thousands of years as a cure for many ailments, and has been said by the prophet
"in it is a cure for all things except death / old age"
www.angelfire.com...
^ this link lists merely a few remedies with blackseed by The Permission of The Almighty, and if you go to the right places it ISN'T expensive.
(if you live in london for example, you can buy a bottle of blackseed oil from a local islaamic shop for about £4-£6, which lasts for AGES!)
ANOTHER thing that we swear by is honey! not just any honey that you get from your local supermarket but PURE honey, the type preferred is known as
"sidr honey" which is taken from bees who only feed from the lote tree / christ's thorn / jujube, which we believe to be the first tree which aadam
(peace and blessings be upon him) took fruit from when he came to earth...
due to the special status of such a tree, and the fact that it is relatively rare, it usually is expensive... BUT if you live in london you ca get a
jar of 500g for as little as £15! again you will need to track down an arab or islaamic shop to get it from normally, and edgware road is normally a
brilliant bet!
www.alfitrah.net...
^ here is a link so that you may find out more about this beautiful honey, it's origins etc...
i shall post more links later insha'Allaah, but for now, here are a few for the people who love organic natural products!
happy hunting LOL

another thing which we pay attention to is the following:
zaitoon (olive) is a cure for 70 illnesses!
Zaitoon (Olive) the sign of peace and friendship in this world has its description in Holy Qur’an Allah Taala says:
By the fig and olive
And the mount of Sinai
And the city of security
We have indeed created man in the best of moulds
Then do we abase him (to be) the lowest of low
Except such as believe and do righteous deeds for they shall have a reward unfailing
What then, can after this, make you deny the last judgement
Is not Allah the wisest of judges” (The Fig, Surah 95)

www.islamicvoice.com...
^ visit the above link to find out more about the medicinal use of olives...
black olives tend to be more palatable to those who aren't used to them ,and DO NOT get them in brine! try to get them in oil instead!
and bring on the olive oil lol!
(i shall add more to the thread as i find, insha'Allaah!)

Fatness
The prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said
“a man has not filled-up a vessel worst than his belly, it is sufficient for a man some few bites which support his stamina, it is necessary to take
more, then one third of the space for food, a third for the water and a third for respiration.”
[Refer to Iman Ahmed, Turmizi and others]
He also said
“the stomach is the house of ailments”.
Now science discovered that from health point of view, fatness indicated a defect in the assimilation of nourishment due to excessive fat or
ill-functioning of endocrine glands.
However, hereditary does not play a major role in being overweight as some people think.
Researches confirmed that fatness has dire consequences on the human body.
An American Insurance company has published statistics inducting that the more increase in the lines of waist belt the more decrease in the rate of
human age.
Men whose waist surrounding is more that the chest surrounding have higher rate of death.
The research also confirmed that the Urine diabetes disease targets the fat person rather than the normal person.
Fatness has a negative effects on the organs of the body, particularly the heart.
The fat replaces some of the cells of the heart muscles & directly affects its proper function.
The prophet Mohammed (PBUH) has rightly warned against fatness when he said “the stomach is the house of ailments”.
The above mentioned research also warned against using medicines to decrease weighs. The best way to decrease weight & keep the body normal and fit is
to follow the directives and guidance of Allah who ordered us not to take food excessively.
Allah says “O children of Adam! Wear your beautiful apparel at every time & place of prayer: eat and drink: But waste not by excess, For Allah love
not the wasters” [7:31].
Therefore, it was before fourteen centuries Islam explained the importance of adapting a moderate and normal nourishment system that created moderate
and balanced weights.
Islam preceded the modern medical references in warning against excess in taking food and the negative of fatness.
To protect the digestive system, the prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said, “the origin of every ailment is excessive eating of food”
[Refer to Eljamie Elsageer]
This saying by the prophet indicated the importance of protecting the digestive system which will lead to protecting the whole body against self
poisoning resultant from excessive eating.
Excessive eating & eating before digesting the previous meal lead to burden the digestive system, inflammations in the digestive system as well as
multiplying harmful bacteria in it. Consequently it releases its poisons in blood, respiratory system, urinary system and kidneys and defection them.
Therefore, here we find the miraculous significance if Quran & the sayings of the prophet Mohammed (PBUH) which aimed to protect the healthy of man by
advising him not to take excessive food and & not to be fat very lately, modern medicine reached to this Islamic fact.

(the article is quite blunt due to emphasising the importance of keeping the body in good condition. please DO NOT take offense to the wording in th
article as it is also a translation to my knowledge... Allaah knows best!)

Prophetic Medicine in Modern Life
Healing with Food: Islamic Tradition or Modern Idea?
By Karima Burns, MH, ND

Smoothies are tasty AND healthy
610 AD
Allah’s Messenger said, “The stomach is the central basin of the body, and the veins are connected to it. When the stomach is healthy, it passes
on its condition to veins, and in turn the veins will circulate the same and when the stomach is putrescence, the veins will absorb such putrescence
and issue the same” - Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (saws).
1999 AD
“The diet of the future will not be designed to lose weight, but to cheat death. Within the next few years, scientists hope to meld increasing
knowledge about the genetic makeup of the human body with the equally promising use of food as medicine to customize diets that can forestall, treat
or even prevent disease.” - The Los Angeles Times
Aisha used to recommend At-Talbina for the sick and for such a person as grieved over a dead person. She used to say, "I heard Allah's Apostle
saying, 'At-Talbina’ gives rest to the heart of the patient and makes it active and relieves some of his sorrow and grief. " In fact, the prophet
used to “prescribe” food for ailments even more than he prescribed herbs or medicines. The Prophet used everything from barley soup to honey to
camel’s milk to heal his followers and advised them to eat certain foods to prevent or cure other ailments. In fact, food is one of the oldest and
most respected healing tools available to man. Even the first fruits of paradise - the apple and/or the pomegranate - have hundreds of curative
properties (Yeager, p.21). The Chinese and Indian healers have used the properties of food to heal for thousands of years.
Modern science is now “discovering” the power that food has. Bookshelves at the store are filled with books on Ayurvedic medicine, books like Eat
Right 4 Your Type, hundreds of books on how to detoxify your body using diet and an equal number of books touting certain ways of eating such as
macrobiotic or vegan as a “cure all” for any disease. Other books give specific recipes or lists of foods that cure various diseases. The Los
Angeles Times reported two years ago that, “...some experts are already espousing the medicinal power of certain foods to some patients. They are
advising menopausal women to drink soy milk, which is thought to ease hot flashes and other symptoms. They are suggesting fish high in omega-3 oils,
like salmon, herring and mackerel, to patients at risk of cardiovascular disease or breast cancer. And for men fearing prostate cancer, they are
advising consumption of more tomato-based products, such as spaghetti sauce--because tomatoes are high in lycopene, thought to reduce the risk of this
disease” (Cimons).
In reality, healing with food is one of the oldest methods of healing known to man and is not a “new” concept in any way. It is also one of the
most economical and globally available methods of healing known to man. The Prophet Muhammad (saws) used it more than a thousand years ago and even a
thousand years before him the Chinese used it. In fact, in areas where medicine and herbs are not available, food can provide a solution to many
medical problems. In many developing countries where people cannot afford to buy medicines, traditional healers commonly hand out prescriptions in
terms of berries or cups of oats.....

Smoothies are tasty AND healthy

continued : SOME RECIPES FOR ALL OF YOU!
In the book, Smoothies for Life, the following recipe is given for preventing osteoporosis:
Smoothie
1 cup nonfat yogurt
1/2 cup nonfat milk
1/4 cup pitted dates
1 frozen banana
3 tablespoons of tahini
Add a sprig of mint, blend together and drink.
Dates and Tahini are credited with giving this nutritious shake a big calcium boost. In fact, foods like humus, zaaatar or anything else with a large
proportion of tahini or sesame seeds will help prevent osteoporosis.
In the book, Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners, Amadea Morningstar gives the following recipe to heal candida and depression stemming from such a
condition:
Minestrone Soup
2/3 cup dried mung beans, navy beans and chick peas
8 cups water
1 bay leaf
Cook the beans until done (soak overnight first).
Wash and chop:
2 potatoes
1 carrot
3 inches of leek
2 stalks of celery
1 cup of fresh green vegetables
Add these vegetables to the pot with the beans and:
1 cup rose petal tomato sauce
1/2 cup white basmati rice
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sweet basil
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
Simmer for 45 minutes and serve.
In the book, New Foods for Healing, the editors of Prevention Magazine list recipes for almost every disease including the following recipe for high
cholesterol:
Oatmeal-Apricot Cookies
2/3 cup dried apricots, coarsely chopped
1/3 cup boiling water
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
1/4 cup fat-free egg substitute
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 cups oats
Beans and grains can heal
Combine the apricots in the food processor with the water until well-blended. Add this to the sugar and butter in another bowl. Add the egg substitute
and vanilla. Beat. Add the rest of the ingredients except the oats and mix again. Sprinkle the oats over the mix, stirring. Bake at 350.
The key in this recipe is, of course, the oats. Oat bran and oatmeal, in fact, are still the most popular ways to lower cholesterol. Some doctors even
recommend that taking 1/2 cup of oat bran a day will cure cholesterol (Kowalski).
In Healing with Whole Foods, Paul Pitchford gives lists of foods that help to cure various diseases along with helpful recipes such as the following
dish for diabetics:
Millet with Onions
2 cups millet, soaked
1/2 onion, diced
2 carrots, diced
1/4 cup hijiki, soaked and cut
6 cups water
1/2 tsp. sea salt
Toasted sesame seeds
Layer vegetables in order given. Add millet, water and salt. Cover Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer 30 minutes. Stir and served sprinkled
with sesame seeds.
The secret to this recipe is the millet, a very inexpensive and common grain.
Yuhanna bin Masawayh (known in the West as Mesue), an accomplished Arab pharmacist, said, “A physician who can cure by using only diet without
drugs, is the most successful and skilled of all physicians.” This is certainly true if you are on a budget, are taking medications that may
interfere with herbs, you want to seek a simpler solution, you want to minimize side effects, or you live in a country where many things are
unavailable. Certainly food should be considered a very real alternative to importing special medicines and herbs or taking risky medicines.

What are the main laws or beliefs relating to food?
Eating is a matter of faith in Islam. Muslim dietary practise is fundamentally about obeying God. All practising Muslim believers obey God
Almighty by eating the allowed foods (halal) and avoiding the forbidden foods (haram) which are mentioned in the Qur’an and in the sayings of the
final prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The following are a list of Muslim dietary practises. Muslims follow these because it is God’s word in
the Qur’an. The health benefits (which are now apparent with the development of science) of the Muslim diet merely qualify the wisdom of God’s
word and shed light on God’s benevolence. It is God’s commandments that are crucial; the health benefits are secondary.
Recite the name of God (Allah) before eating and thank God after finishing. It is a good thing to eat by the right hand and in company. Muslims
must pronounce the name of Allah on all animals while slaughtering.
Think and contemplate in every item of food you eat by remembering God the creator the Designer, The Organiser and the Provider. A prayer-like
state may be achieved in this way.
It is important to eat only when you are hungry. When you do eat, you should not eat in excess. As advised by the Prophet, one should divide his /
her stomach into 3 parts - a third each for food, fluid, and respiration. Remember the hungry when you eat. One could avoid going to hell by feeding a
hungry dying person or animal.
Halal pure healthy meat, chicken, fish, milk, olive oil and honey are highly recommended in Islam
Is there a link with vegetarianism?
All types of fruit and vegetable (when grown naturally and not genetically modified) are recommended to consume in Islam. Grapes, dates, figs,
pomegranate, pulse and cereal are also commended. Honey and olive oil are prescribed as medicinal.
Having said all this, the Prophet said “the master of all foods is the meat” Meat is a highly nutritious diet, as doctors testify. There is no
prohibition to be vegetarian in Islam, but any practising Muslim will come across meat on many Islamic occasions when meat is provided. For example,
the sacrifice of sheep and distribution to the poor at the end of Hajj (pilgrimage). It should also be noted that it is not obligatory to eat meat in
Islam.
In general, will people of this faith eat in a food outlet that serves food or drink that does not conform to their beliefs?
It is very discouraged in Islam to eat in a restaurant which serves forbidden food and alcohol or to buy anything from it. Sitting at a table
where alcohol is served is forbidden too. Restaurants with smokers are to be avoided too (this is the result of a new fatwa that states smoking is
haram).
When and why do people of this faith feast and fast?
Feast days (dates vary according to the lunar calendar) include Eid al-Fitr (after finishing the fasting months of Ramadan) and Eid al-Udha.
Fasting is considered an opportunity to earn the approval of Allah, to wipe out previous sins, and to understand the suffering of the poor.
Fasting is also partly to be in control of appetite and to avoid food addiction. It is the fourth ritual observance in the Five Pillars of
Islam......

Fasting includes abstention from all food and drink from dawn to sunset. Voluntary fasting is common on Mondays and Thursdays (it is undesirable to
fast on certain days of the months and on Fridays). Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, is a mandatory fasting period that commemorates
the period when the Qur'an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food and drink (and sex) from before the
break of dawn until sunset. Muslims are encouraged to fast 6 days during the month of Shawwal (the month after Ramadan), on the 10th day of Muharram
(the first month in the Islamic calendar), and on the 9th day of Zul Hijjah (the month of Hajj - pilgrimage).

mmmm now as i LOVE mushrooms, i thought i would share this with you all!
Khumbi Mann Mushroom
(Agaricus campesteris)
By Dr. M. Liaq Ali Khan
It is a self growing Fungus, wildly grows during the rainy season. There are several varieties of this plant, but for the eating purpose only Agaricus
campesteris is being used, while other varieties like Psalliota campesteris is not for eating purpose, because all most all species of this plant are
toxic in nature. Morphologically the plants are of two types, one which has an umbrella on its shaft but other appears like small balls. The latter is
the only variety to eat.
Hazrat Sayeed Bin Zaid narrates that Rasool Allah (SAW) said, “Khumbi is from Mann, its water is a cure for eyes”
The same narration is stated too by Jabir (RA), while Abu Naim narrated the same from Hazrat Aisha and Abdullah Bin Abbas.
Hazrat Abi Sayeed narrates that Rasool Allah (SAW) said, “Khumbi is a part of Mann, Mann actually is from paradise, its water is a cure for
eyes.”
Hazrat Sayeed Bin Zaid narrates that Nabi-e-Akram (SAW) said, “Kumbi is from that Mann, which was sent to Bani Israel by Allah Taala. Its water is a
cure for the eyes.”
Hazrat Suhaib narrates that Rasool Allah (SAW) said, “Kumbi is here for your benefit, it is from Mann, its water is a cure for the eyes.”
Hazrat Abu Hurrairah narrates that one day Ashab of Nabie-Akram (SAW) said that Khumbi was the small pox of the land. Consequently Nabi-e-Akram (SAW)
said that Khumbi was from Mann and the water of khumbi was the cure for the ailments of the eyes, while the Ajwa Dates were from Paradise and an
antidote for poisons.
Abu Hurrairah states that after this, I took 3/5/7 khumbis, squeezed those and collected the extracted water in a bottle. This water was applied in
the eyes of my servant who was suffering from eye trouble and she got cured with that water.
The scholars of Hadith laid down the following conditions and possibilities for the use of Khumbi.
i) The water extracted from Khumbi is itself a drug, it should be used in the same form.
ii) It should not be mixed with other drugs.
iii) According to Allama Al-Ghafqui the Khumbi water fortifies the effect of other drugs. Example: if it is mixed during the grinding process of
surma, this surma strengthens the eye lashes, corrects the refraction defects and sight weakness and relieves any type of inflammation of the eyes.
Chemical composition - According to British Research Council for food, the Khumbi contains the following components:
Proteins, Carbohydrates, Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Ferrous, Cobalt, Phosphorus, Sulphur and Chlorine.
Other scholars state that it contains 90% water, 30% Proteins, 5% Carbohydrate and 1% Minerals and vitamins. The active principle of Khumbi is Agaric
Fungi Acid. It contains less Sodium and more potassium, hence, can be used by the Hypertensive safely.
The white variety is ideal to eat, while black and red coloured are toxic in nature. Abu Sahal Masihi, the teacher of Sheikh Bu Ali Sina, states it is
a cure for almost all diseases of the eye. If the balls of Khumbi are dried and ground in the form of powder, it is effective in Diarrhoea. It lessens
the temperature of the body and reduces the production of Phlegm. It is also used for weight gain. Locally, if it is applied on protruded umbilicus of
small children with saresham mahi and vinegar, the umbilicus becomes retracted. Its local application is also effective in Hernia. It is a Haematinic
too. Its paste is a good healing agent for wounds.....

Now-a-days, Mushrooms have become popular food in the society. Europeans are very much fond of the dishes prepared from mushrooms, but it is
worthwhile to mention here that Nabi-e-Akram (SAW) told us its advantages and directed us to use it as food and drug hundreds years ago. But
unfortunately, it is least used by Muslims in their diet in India. Mushrooms belong to the same family of fungi, from which several Antibiotics have
been invented like penicillin, Chloromycetin etc. Modern research has also derived some Antibacterials from mushrooms. These are under trial and
possibilities might not be ruled out of their therapeutic place in medical science. Trials have proved that the mushroom water has a potential to kill
the bacteria. It is given in Typhoid Typhus and other Fevers with honey and shows very good effects. It is a very good Haemostatic, if applied on the
haemorrhagic site of leech bite.
