Ill say I actually liked a movie from the 80s called Enemy mine.
Maybe not exactly what this thread is about but I enjoyed none the less.
However I also liked Contact but the book was far better.
Close encounters of the 3rd kind was not bad, but I think they should do a remake. Steven spielberg just annoys me with his signature films.

EnemyMine that's the one where they are both stranded and the alien has a baby, right?
I like The Thing and that one where the saucers plug themselves into the wall and save the apartment building.

Close Encounters
Fire in the sky
K-pax
Event Horizon
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Star Wars (most anyway)
Screamers
Just some right off the top of my head. I'm sure there's others.

Just remembered one that I saw recently.
"Altered" is a straight to DVD low budget Alien abduction film starring on of the main guys from "Taken" -- They guy that plays the Dakota
Fannings Dad. For a low budget movie, this was actually pretty darn good. I think many here would enjoy it based on other movie selections.

some crazy kid who thinks he's from mars.
Real live kid.
Real life story (by David Gerrold).
Makes your heart bleed it’s so touching.
Oh, and not ONE CRAZY KID in the movie.
Just a child who needed *more* and thank God he got it in his adopted father.
Read the book - might help with your compassion issues.

Taken was outstanding. Aliens, for the action "Somebody wake up hicks", Contact is very good as well.
Not sure if Cloverfield counts or not, since it's never really established that the monster is an alien or not. Sure looks like one though

Am I the only one who thinks the old 1850s and 60s movies are better than the new, totally reliant on computer generated effects, modern day movies?
My favourites are-
First Men In The Moon.
Invasion Of The Body Snatches.
Star Wars.
Quatermass And The Pit.
And my all time favourite... The Thing From Another World. John Carpenter remade it as "The Thing". Does anyone remember it?

Right on! 'The Thing From Another World' was a fantastic movie. The old black & white films have a style that is very cool.

Thanks for posting that. Brilliant. Do you remember the geiger counter which clicked faster as the Thing drew closer? I always thought that Aliens
nicked the idea with the movement sensor whatsits that they carried.
Glad someone agrees with me about Thing From Another World. Cheers.

Fifth Element
Dune
First Contact
Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
Fifth Element was awesome just because it was so different...kind of in a hysterical over the top way. Some good movies here that I forgot about, I'm
gonna have to make a run to the movie store later
