Themes, Icons & Other Cool Stuff.

Topic started on 25-8-2008 @ 09:34 AM by elevatedone

With the help to a couple of really good Computer Wiz's I've got my Dell XPS free of Virus's, Spyware and other junk.

It seems to be running better than when it came out of the box.

Many thanks to you two (you know who you are). I really appreciate your help.

Now, the sytem is running like a top, I'd like to play with it. I was thinking of adding some different themes, icons and other cool stuff.

I just don't know where to start?

Thanks for reading. Have a super day.

Somehow... I just knew you were cheating.

Personally, I prefer the stripped down K.I.S.S. approach. Me likes my memory and system resources to be as plentiful as possible. ... pagefile, too.

At least I didn't out you...

I'm thinking of Windowblinds.... DL'd it here at work.... testing it out, it's pretty cool.

I'm not real worried about resources, I don't do a whole lot on the PC, sufring the web, listentin to music is really about it.

Yup, I'm checking that one out, thanks... pretty neat so far.

Some really cool designs. I might not use it at home though... the wife won't like the change...

On to something else.... mayby I'll upgrade some memory or something...

just to get this right..

computer is now running fast again, and to celebrate, you want to slow it down by adding extraneous bells and whistles?

well if you HAVE to add stuff, I suggest Samurize.

I would absolutely suggest NOT installing window blinds, or anything else by stardock.

Whats wrong with stardock? I tried it yesterday on this laptop, seemed fine.

However, I am leaning towards just leaving my system as is for now.

Nothing is "wrong" with it. Just like there's nothing wrong with adding a spoiler to your 1996 Mazda - although it's just going to make it look even uglier, cost more, and run that much slower.

Then again, I'm the kind of user that takes off all the special effects in vista. My vista looks like it could be running on Windows 95 (except for the speed)

let's just say that your relationship with your pc will probably be better and more enjoyable when you remember to optimize when you customize. look for those apps, addons, utilities and widgets that take up the least amount of your system's resources.

Aliright, I've decided that I have plenty of resources on my PC that adding a couple of themes / prgrams won't hurt that much.

I have a Dell XPS 410 1gig mem / 250 gig HD, with Duo Core processors. I also might be adding another gig of memory here shortly.

So, I need to choose a program for the themes, I like the recommendations here so far. Not sure which one I'll go with.

I just don't like the XP layout anymore, I'm bored with it.

Vistas look is appealing to me, but I don't want that OS yet.

hmmmm what to do.

if you just wanna change the overall "look" of the graphical user interface then you can use either Stardock Windowblinds or download and manually install visual styles for Windows XP. again i'd refer you to winmatrix.com, just look for Released Visual Styles (less buggy, much prettier).

CrystalXP also offers free downloads of entire bricopacks which changes your system's GUI so that you'd be working on something that looks similar to but isn't quite Windows XP.

Or you might want to try transforming Windows so that it looks like another OS.
