Next Harry Potter movie pushed back to July 2009

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The release date for the sixth Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," was pushed back on Thursday to July 2009 from its original slot in November 2008, movie studio Warner Bros. said.

"We know the summer season is an ideal window for a family ... release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment," Horn said.

Just thought i would share this incase there are people here looking forward to seeing the movie THIS year (i was one of them). Changing the timing so we have to wait 8 months longer just because summer is a better time to release a movie is doing a disservice to fans.

I certainly hope that movie studios do not make a habit of this or we will only get movies coming out in the US summer.

I can see movies doing better in the summer, for movies that might not already have and established fan base. But come on the potter movies will do well no matter what time of year it is, heck you could only play them after midnight and they'd do better than most movies do over the course of the whole day. I wonder what the real reason is.

The movie isn't ready for release yet, and may not be ready by November because of the writers' strike. It is better to delay a movie so they can finish it without rushing it and creating errors.

This information from the imdb.com and other movie sites.

My understanding after listening to people in the know is that the movie is FULLY completed. They are using the Writers Strike as an excuse.

I have also heard the real reason is "The Dark Knight" is so successful, they want "Harry Potter" to be the 2009 mid July release to keep the earnings for that year high. With the Watchmen and the Superman sequel, WB will be in good position next year.

I have also heard this could be because of Daniel Radcliffe's frontal nude scenes in the upcoming Broadway version of "Equus". They don't want the family groups getting upset like they did when the then 17 year old Daniel bared all in the British version over a year ago. It does seem a little silly, since most of the Harry Potter fans would never want to see an intense play like "Equus".

Edited to add:
I also thought it seemed a little strange reason, since the film was completed and all that was being done was some effects and editing.
