Brett Favre was reportedly traded to the New York Jets on Wednesday night. The Jets send a draft pick to Green Bay for the future Hall of Fame
quarterback, who severed ties with the Packers on Tuesday.
Thats all the info ESPN gives...

From your link:
Packers coach Mike McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday that after approximately six hours of what he called "brutally honest" conversations over two
days, the coach had determined that Favre doesn't have the right mind-set to play for the Packers.

I would love to have heard some of these conversations.
Haven't been following the story too closely.
My superficial impression was the Favre expected to walk right in to a starting QB spot, and the Packers weren't going to allow that to happen.
Anyone care to guess how the above "brutally honest" conversation went?

Lol Favre's season won't amount to squat no matter where he his. He's got that Madden curse; i predict he slips and breaks his hip in week two like
the old geezer he is (no offense to anyone over the age of 37).
But seriously, props to him for everything that he's accomplished and worked through. He's held in the highest esteems in my book, however much that
matters.

As a Patriots fan this is GREAT news! The Jets now have three guys who think they should be the starter. I can smell the QB controversy.

I agree...
I hope this doesn't become a Jordan-like Wizards comeback...
Sure he had some good games with the Wiz and he played amazing for a 2 guard at 39 years of age.... but....
He couldn't fly like he used to and most of all... he wasn't wearing the Bulls uniform and it looked wrong.

I feel sorry for you Packers fans.....
As for the trade to the NY Jets, we should have seen a trade coming a few months ago when he announced his "retirement." This news of a trade
didn't really come as a shock to me. It's just the team who they traded him to. Now, he might just be a good pickup for the Jets franchise. After
all, we're talking about a guaranteed Hall of Famer. Beats who they had as the previous starting quarterback.

I'm pumped for the Jets. Pennington always scared me, as a Pats fan. Now they cut him. Can't wait to see Farve throwing into triple coverage twice
a year.
Hopefully Richard Seymore breaks him in two.

Cheesehead here.
I can say that I've been following the Packers to some extent but not a huge amount. I've wished them well in the past but don't follow the day to
day things. In a way I could see this coming with Favre leaving at the end of last season. I however figured that he loved the game too much to
quit. I'll miss him. Oh by the way FAVRE is how his name is spelled. (chuckle)
Wherever he goes I wish him well. He's been through a lot.

I've heard people claim they are now Jets fans, including one in this thread. No insult meant to your 'fanhood', but if you're that easy to break,
you weren't a true fan to begin with.
I'm still a Packers fan and always will be. I despise the upper management to no end and hope for nothing less than their termination and possible
plane crash on the way out of Green Bay, but that doesn't change my feelings for the TEAM.
The team - the players - didn't do this. As much as I resent Aaron Rodgers, he didn't do this. The players are caught in the middle. They aren't
involved in the business decisions. They aren't involved in who starts and who doesn't.
I haven't lost even a shred of loyalty towards the Packers. I see no reason to.
If that is your team and you can say with confidence you are a true fan, it shouldn't matter what happens. Jumping ship doesn't punish them no
matter how much you want to think it does.
I hope Favre the absolute best. He is still, without a doubt, my favorite NFL player of all time. So much so that I will actually be watching Jets
games this year, and I will be cheering for him. But that doesn't change anything when it comes to Green Bay.
Watch out Patriots fans. You can call him old all you want, but the very fact that you're looking at the Jets a little more closely now shows that
you aren't as confident in your chances those two games than you were last year or the year before.
You'll win the division, but don't pencil those two games in as automatic wins just yet.

The Jets always play the Pats tough, its never a easy win. Even the Dolphins are tough games. Even last year. I would rather see Farve playing QB
with the Jets than Pennington. Pennington is now with the Dolphins so the Pats still have to see him twice.
Pennington knows what throws he can and can't make. He will throw 7 yard curls all game if he has to. Farve no matter what, at one point in the
game he will make a bonehead play. Sometimes he gets lucky and sometimes not. Against good teams they will take advantage of that bonehead play.

Lucky? You don't move up to #1 in NFL history in every major QB stat with luck, my friend.
As a Packers and Favre fan, I can say I was more than willing to deal with the "bonehead" plays and interceptions that came with his style of play,
because that style of play usually meant touchdown passes, wins, division titles and Super Bowls.
You guys can underestimate him all you want, tell yourselves he's "washed up" (which people have been saying for, what, 4 years now?), and only pay
attention to his interceptions stat, but you're in for a surprise.

People have been calling Farve Washed up since 2000...
I remeber, one year, he was in the playoffs, and threw 5 INTS in the game agasint the Rams...
That was YEARS ago, and the anoucers were saying then , Farve was washed up...
Farve is a Gunslinger, you take the INTS with everything else...
The Jets havent had a Qb that can throw the football further then 20 yards in YEARS...
Now Farve is here, expect the Feild to Open up... Short Crossing routes that went for 3-5 yards, will now go 7-10 yards, as the Safties have to stay
further back to protect the long ball...
The RB will also be better off, the Safties can no longer crowd the line, and should see a MUCH better Yard/carry average...
People are saying that the Jets have gone from an 6 win team, to an 8 win team...
I think they are better then that, i think they CAN win 10 games, and if things fall right, they COULD make the playoffs...
As for the GB preseason game tonight...
Rodgers looked Good!
Brohm looked like a scared little girl... so, Rodgers is the guy, and there are no othe options...

Rodgers looked good, but some of his passes were high. Thats fine for preseason, but he's going to have to settle down some and get those passes
down. I understand all the pressure on him, but that doesn't change his obligations as the starting QB.
Brian Brohm, even if he came out and threw for 300 yards, wasn't going to be the starting QB this year unless Rodgers went down. But after that
performance, I'm not sure thats even the case. Matt Flynn had a much better game. 12/21, 97 yards and a TD is just fine for your first NFL game.
I don't want to take anything away from these guys, but....it was the Bengals defense, and their back ups at that....
I think if Rodgers can do what he did in this game, which was be consistent and good enough to lead his team down the field, in the regular season,
the Packers can go 10-6, 11-5 and win the division. He doesn't have to be Brett Favre. If he manages the game and doesn't lose the game, the team as
a whole will win the game.
