Boy did we get screwed on this deal!
The Manny Ramirez [stats] era in Boston has come to an end.
The Red Sox [team stats] did what many didn’t think was possible, trading Ramirez before today’s 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline to the Los
Angeles Dodgers in a three-way trade that will bring Pirates outfielder Jason Bay to Boston.
The deal, which was completed just moments before the deadline, will also send Red Sox reliever Craig Hansen and outfielder Brandon Moss to
Pittsburgh, which will also receive Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris from the Dodgers.
Ramirez agreed to waive his no-trade rights stemming from the 36-year-old’s 10-5 status (10 years in majors, five with one team) in return for the
agreement by the Dodgers to get rid of the two $20 million team options for 2009 and ’10.
According to FoxSports.com, the Red Sox will also pay the Dodgers the approximate $7 million left on Ramirez’ contract for the remainder of the
season.

So, we lost 3 players, and got one in return. LA got one player plus $7million for his remaining salary. Pittsburgh got 4 players.
Such a deal.

Sometimes GM's and player personnel staff develo such egos after tasting success that they come to think that is themselves not the players that win
games. Although a good GM can put a team together and put a wining team, a winning team is not the same as a CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM!!
Ask Jerry Reinsdorf, Brian Cashman, Billy Bean the various GM's the Minnesota Twins have had, Mark Cuban and I can go on and on and on!!!
This is a bad trade for the Red Sox in everyway, one that would set them back for 20 YEARS!!! THATS THE AMOUNT OF TIME A PLAYER LIKE MANNY RAMIREZ
COMES AROUND!!!
Not saying that the Sox are going to be awful just saying that they won be CHAMPIONS NO MORE!!

YES YES YES
A few days ago, when i sae Manny wanted to be traded, i said that he would be perfect for LA
LA is an easygoing city
Manny is Easy-going
Torre is easy going...
LA is an Insane CIty
Manny is Insane
LA is Latino/Hispanic
Manny is Lationo/Hispanic
Its a match made in heaven... if only we could have a DH...
Its also sweet that the Dodgers didnt have to give up any major players... LaRoache is Garbage... and the other guy i never heard of...
THis is great for the dodgers, and i hope that this means that Andrew Jones is BANISHED to the bench the rest of the Year... The Dodgers now have 4
quality outfeilders, and one big fat corpse...
YAY...

Its more like 2 months. Thats what was left on his contract. They had a option for 20 million/year for the next 2 season, but Manny at his age is
worth about half that.
The Red Sox got hosed, but I also thought they got hosed when they traded Nomar and Matt Murton for Cabrera, Dave Roberts and Doug Menkeviorsomething.
I remember saying "that's all they got for Nomar"? And that worked out well.
Time will tell. Jason Bay is no Manny. But Bay was a budding superstar until a knee injury last year (that he played through with) curbed his
numbers.

Manny is now going to be playing for a new contract so you should expect even more from him. The Sox were tired of his antics. They had to get rid
of him.

As a sox fan i am optomistic about this trade
Manny is manny a great hitter and a reason opposing managers get little sleep at nite/ esp. batting next to Ortiz.
However he is 36, statistically speaking he will have more injury's and become less productive within a year or so, but i wouldn't be as sure as i
was that pedro's production would fall
On the other hand Bay has VERY solid numbers 280-300 ave. combined with 30 homers and 100 rbi's seems good and with boston's offense seems to
translate to me into about 300 33 110 with a little more speed and youth for the future. Bay is very under-rated and i think should do well, so long
as he can handle playing in boston, (cross fingers)

Well, Jason Bay arrived at Fenway Park to a standing ovation and placards with "Welcome to the BAY State". He scored the winning run and made a
catch that Manny never would have made.
Meanwhile, there were also signs saying "Manny WHO???" in the stands.
Nothing like Sox fans..

Bay is a nice player, and just might lead the Sox to another title...
But i dont Care, manny is going to LOVE LA, and it can only go up from here for the Dodgers...
Even though the dodgers lost today, they should win the NL West, and if you get to the playoff, who knows what will happen.
I hope Manny stays, even though it will hurt his carrer in the long run, LA is not a HR hitter park, its a Pitchers Park, The outfield us HUGE, Manny
isnt going to be protected by the Green monster anymore, but LA is a Relaxed City, and someone as laid Back as Manny should be fine...
Did anyone else see his introducatuary news confrence at Home Plate last afternoon, he was great, cracking jokes, answering questions in english and
spanish at ease... He is going to Love LA, and i hope he can stay here for a couple years, and show us some of that CLUTCH HITTING that the Dodgers
have needed...
But, that being said, Bostan Came out fine in this Deal, The pirates get an incomplete, and i am a dodger Fan, so who knows, even if all we get is 2
months of manny it will be worth it...

Don't get me wrong - I love Manny. I really hated to see him go, and will miss Manny being Manny.
LA will be perfect for his lay-back attitude. I wish him all the success in the world.
He's so cool...with all his money, do you know what he drove around Boston in? A Chevy Impala.

Think about this....
Who was the manager for the Yankees when Manny played for Boston? Joe Torre.
Who is the current manager for the L.A. Dodgers? Joe Torre.
I think that with Nomar and Manny back on the same team, the Dodgers may become virtually unstoppable in the National League. That is of course when
Nomar returns from this knee injury next year. Los Angeles will be the perfect fit for Manny.
I do have a question though.
Can we say that Manny is the current player version of Ozzie Guillen?

I remember when Johnny Damon went to the Yankees, he cut his hair and shaved. Torre was manager.
Will Manny have to cut his hair in LA?

Torre said he asked Manny to clean it up. I don't know how short Manny will cut it. He didn't seem to have a problem though (from what I saw on TV).

I heard that Torre said to manny he has to clean up a little...
But i say let him... This isnt NY city, this is Laid Back LA...
And yes, i think Ozzie and Manny are similar....
LA is realy happy with the Dodgers now... They upgraded at 2 positions of need, a Power hitter and a third baseman...
They should take the NL West...
Its rumored that they are going to try to get Greg Maddux... not the Maddux of old, but i think he could be an effective #5 pitcher... The Dodgers
arent going to get anything from jason Schmit...

this is a good trade in my opinion because manny was screwing around because he obivously wasn't happy. He was hurting the teams chemistry in my
opinion. He probably didn't create the best atmosphere during the dugout because of his unhappiness, and on the field he wasn't hustling like he
should. Jason Bay is young and is doing as well as manny is this season. If the red sox can lock up bay, it could turn out to be great, if bays
numbers keep heading upwards..

This is one of those trades where EVERYONE wins...
LA gets the Power Hitter they need, while Giving up one of thier young 3B prospects
Boston gets rid of an unhappy player, and gets a younger comprable player
Pitsburg gets a BUNCH of young everyday players and prospects
Everyone wins...
