I've always been a fan of different music. Not the same old junk played on the radio. So I figured I'd have a little fun here and see if anyone else was interested. Let's also see if I can figure out this embedding thing. I haven't had any luck but I'm going to keep trying until I get it right.

I'm going to start with some stuff from the early days.

EDIT: OK, that worked. Thanks to sc2099 for getting me going on that. Ok, Not so much.....Maybe this time?

EDIT # 6 - I got one right, I'm not having any luck doing the same thing with the others. I shouldn't have gone beyond where I did without checking them out. I just figured they were there. Guess that's what lack of sleep does LOL - impairs judgment. Until tomorrow when I get this fixed, just ignore the rest of the thread. I will get it done but a little tired now. A little flummoxed too, after so many tries. Put in a link for now, make it look halfway decent.

Three edits and I think i screwed it all up, I'll get it right, I assure you.

Four, then?

V - I only tried two videos, cleared out the others to keep it simple, which may or may not be simple.

Some of this stuff I have not seen all the way through or I haven't seen in ages so I'll have to go and check out the stuff I put myself. It'll sort of be like a new experience for me, revisiting all the old stuff. I just wanted to get some up first, let people see some stuff and if they so choose to comment, so be it. Or not, no sweat off my back.

Here's a concert from Genesis back in 1973 featuring Suppers Ready among other tunes. Bot really my cuppa but it's not awful. Just a little too mellow for me, I guess. Peter Gabriel was one weird dude back in the day.

Pink Floyd - Careful With That Axe Eugene

Another concert, this one from Emerson, Lake and Palmer. It's a bit hard trying to find clips from these bands, live, in days of yore. I find lots of bits and pieces but many times don't find the whole song, which for this purpose is useless. I'll have to figure out how to embed the youtube stuff, that didn't seem to work with the last one. That would help a little. My tutors are having a hard time telling me what to do because it embeds in the u2u, which I find hilarious. It will work itself out, hopefully before 2012.

Welcome! Good stuff there, I like the Ayreon. That's a band I've wanted to check out but I got sidetracked a few years ago trying to find the truth about things and never did. My music search was put off a bit. Hence the reason for this thread, botched as it may be.

I was going to start from the beginning, throw up some "hits", then delve deeper with more obscure bands then work my way up to the present. Bugger that, too much time involved.

I welcome any additions from anyone. Although, I will have to admit there will be a heated discussion on what prog is if anyone decides to post System of a Down or The Mars Volta. I prefer to think of SOAD as junk and TMV as talented junk. As far as TMV goes, if I want weird free-form I'll listen to Coltrane. At least there's no screeching vocals.

Renaissance - Can You Understand

EDIT:I give up for now, I'll just post links.

Looking for more Renaissance I found Blackmore's Night has redone Ocean Gysy. Not as good as the original but not bad. Interesting, to me, I'm a huge Deep Purple fan but have yet to buy any BN. Here's some more Renaissance, I've always love Annie Haslem's voice. Very soothing to my ears.

Carpet of the Sun

Renaissance - Mother Russia

Renaissance - Medley - Scheherezade/Ocean GYpsy

EDIT: Took out the failed embed. SIGH.

Since the Renaissance is a bit mellow, I figured I'd kick it up a notch. A bit of lunacy from Dream Theater will do.

Dream Theater - The Dance Of Eternity/One Last Time

This may sound the same at the beginning, but it's not.

Dream Theater - Instrumedley

Cool thread... in the UK it can be a bit of a social stigma to admit being into prog stuff, there's some damn good stuff out there though.
