I Didn't Get It....

Topic started on 24-7-2008 @ 09:51 AM by elevatedone

A Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.

I finally watched it last night. I didn't get it.

Would someone explain it to me?

Thanks.

What exactly did you not get about it?

That's one of my favorite movies.

I don't know.... I guess I should say it was just weird, I did fall asleep a couple of times, maybe I missed something. ( I'd been golfing all day )

There were a few funny parts. Maybe I expected more.

Perhaps....it is a very strange movie to be sure.

I love Mos Def in that movie though, he's quickly become of the most enjoyable actors for me to watch. (He was great in Be Kind Rewind)

I can understand how many don't like it though....my wife fell asleep the first time we watched it as well.

Whilst hitch hiking around backpacking, douglas adams one drunken night failed to find accomodation and fell into a field to sleep.

Whilst waiting for sleep to take him, he was on his back, looking up at the stars, and came up with the idea for his books - a trilogy in four parts, widely known as the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

You really DO need to read the books, then all will become clear.

Especially slartibartfarst (sp?)

and marvin

and everything else.

Ha ha... A co-worker just came by and we were discussing the movie, he too said the books are much better.

Guess I've got my homework to do now.

If you read the books, the movie is nothing...less than nothing.

The books are classics. Totally mind-blowing and funny.

Are you guys talking about that god-aweful hollywood adaptation? Lol. You should try to enjoy Hitchhikers in it's original Radio format first. It has the voices from the Mini-series(which you should definately check out after you've listened to teh Radio Play).

The hollywood movie doesn't exist to me.

This is the only screen adaptation that should be referenced when talking about this great series.

This is the only Arthur Dent that I reconize. And this is how Zaphod was supposed to look like...

Anyway. I don't know what I'm doing save reply to draft, post edit. It's too much. The robot Marvin on the planet of mattresses and the guy who lived in the reversed house because the world was insane after he read INSTRUCTIONS on a match box. Loved the books. But I have to admit I didn't get the end of Mostly Harmless.

Adams was apparently planning on continuing on from that point in book six which never happened. The Audio play has a much better ending.

YouTube Link

Here is the first part of the first episode of the TV series they are all on Youtube so watch them while they're still available. Almost 4 hours of fun!

For people who haven't seen it check it out. Much better then the movie.
