Topic started on 20-7-2008 @ 11:59 AM by LateApexer313

Any Auto Racing fans out there: 2008 American Le Mans Series is on NBC until 2pm EST. It's the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio in Lexingto, OH.

This course is a great road course and one of my favorites to drive in the country. If you like cars, turn it on and watch!

Acura Sports Car Challenge
Lexington, OH, US
One of the classic sports car venues in North America, Mid-Ohio marks the running of the second annual Acura Sports Car Challenge. A strong contingent of Acura teams, racing in American Honda’s backyard, will look to make their mark on a circuit where Porsche has dominated the past two years.

Here's an example of the kind of cars racing in the American Le Mans Series:

You've driven the track Apexer??

I don't really follow the sport but am interested in cars and racing. Former NSX owner here.

I drove an NSX on Mid-Ohio lol...wore the brakes down to the rotors on the track lol...I liked those cars, fun to drive, they needed some more heavy duty brakes though to track them

Yes I've driven Mid-Ohio a lot, it's my favorite road course

I've never taken a car onto a "track" before. I sold my nsx to some guy in california years ago. I can't imagine going through a set of pads in one afternoon!!

I have also driven a Subaru WRX STI, 2000 Corvette, & recently a 2008 BMW 335i. All 3 were a tic faster than the NSX but the NSX gets more looks.

I wish Acura would have came out with another high end sports car with a mid-engine v-8 to challenge the high end Porsches, Ferraris, etc. I've heard the NSX-typeR is lighter and has better breaks and thus performs much better on the track. They never brought it over from Japan though...

The next time I get a sports car I'm taking it to the track. It sounds like a great experience.

Hiyah Scram....

I've never driven the Suburu version but my Dad owns the Sparco Evo 8, Mitsubishi's version of the same car...but the one raced and sponsored by Sparco...I think it's in an XBox game too...anyway, you might have heard of it, I drove THAT bad boy on Mid-Ohio, I tell you what, it has motorcycle acceleration, I think it will do about 10.2 in a quarter mile....I passed a few high-end trailered-in cars in that machine lol, a blast to drive! All wheel drive, clings to the corners so I can accelerate like half way thru them lol...people call them "rice burners" but they can do some damage lol!

I've driven a 2008 Z06 Corvette on Mid Ohio...I love the windshield projection that tells you among other things, how many G's you're pulling around the turns lol...but it's hard to watch it while you corner

I've had the honor of driving a lot of sweeeeeeeeet cars on various tracks, I keep a notebook of them all, and my times, etc...

You should sooo do a driving school on a road course you'd be hooked! I don't know what you drive now, but if you can track it, I will let you know how to hook up with a driving school on a track near you if you want I don't know how close to Mid Ohio you are but if you don't have a track-able car you can actually do a school in one of their cars I think they use Honda's or Acura's, I can't remember. I am sure other tracks around the U.S> have similar programs if you don't have a car you can drive on the track!

By the way, I loved the NSX, way ahead of it's time, I remember the first time I got in one, I was like wow cooool a SPACESHIP lol...the dash rocked didn't it??

It was a sharp looking car I thought...I used to sell car stuff on eBay...and I sold the Mechanic's Manual or whatever it's called, to the NSX on eBay and didn't set a minimum bid, that thing went to like $500 in 1999 lol...I was amazed...it had an almost cult like following

I am digging through my track photos, here's one of me, driving a Porsche 944 Rothman's Turbo Cup Car....it won a Canadian race...this is at Mid-Ohio....

Here's the Sparco Evo 8....that's not me driving it....

Here's the 956 Rothman's Porsche serial number 01 that won the Le Mans race in I think 1986? I could be wrong though about the year....got to drive this...
at Roebling Roads in Savannah, GA....

Anyway, I am a car freak so, I am soo lucky to get to drive so many cool cars and be around them!

What you got to drive the Porsche 01 ?

Mind explaining how?

I would die to drive one of those on a track. But I suppose if I was dead I couldn't drive.
