TV rots your brain

Topic started on 13-7-2008 @ 03:18 PM by UFOpsychiczebra

TV is fun, entertaining, great and who would be whitout one but... it rots your brain and was designed to control you so why are you watching it? Maybe we should all stop watching TV by pledge to this thread. If you pledge to stop rotting your brain with TV post here. Note that movies and DVDs and videos don't count. So you still wouldn't have to miss your fave shows on DVD.

I just moved.
Our new house has yet to be connected to any sort of dish, cable, etc.
We've been watching dvd's. And the little bit of over the air programming.

specifically, the 2 Hi-def pbs stations, and one Olympic trials feed (I'm really enjoying that).

We're "this close" to just saying no, to any sort of mega-channel subscription.
I'll let you know how the withdrawls go..LOL

P.S.

A lot of the brain rotting, is not the fault of the dish or cable system, but the programming choices you make. There is a lot of educational stuff available.
It's all about choices.

There are alot of movies designed to make you think one way or the other too, you can't say watch movies and Dvd's but not TV.

You watch what you want and don't watch what you don't want, you only take away what you want from it too, If you want to be "Bainwashed" you can't blame the show only yourself.

I canceled my satellite subscription because I couldn't afford it after I lost my job. I now use a powered antenna, the "rabbit ears." You know what, I don't miss it. I still get CTV, Global and CBC.

CTV and Global carry most of the best shows from the US networks, plus local news. CBC has Hockey Night in Canada and the Olympics, and of course national news.

Everything else I get via internet, but I find myself reading way more than I used to.

Comte, I'm in Ontario too. I have basic Cogeco cable service..(70 channels)
However, when analog switches to digital..not sure what I'll do yet. I'm already paying way too much, but here in the winter time when it's -30, the kids can't play outside. I have all the educational channels I need for them. All I watch is CSI, and the odd movie on SPACE.
Heck if TV is rotting my brain..how come I analyze DNA samples in my sleep?
Why give it another year and I'll be a crime scene investigator myself! (In my own mind)

I think the replies prove my theory correct.

Of course WHAT you watch is a factor, if you want reality TV your brain was probably a lost cause in the first place, but CSI, mmm, maybe not that bad. Maybe a TV guide to rotting scales for brains for each show would be a good idea.

For example, where 0 is non rot and 5 is rot these shows would be rated,

CSI: 2
Reality TV:5
News:3 -4 depending on station.
The Simpsons: 4.
Hockey: 4
Baseball: 1
Olympics: 3, depending on event.

When I first received my dish I thought, "Yeah buddy! 700 channels, I'm liv'n large now! I started flipping through all the channels and before I knew it I had spend 2 hours trying to find anything worth while to watch. "I spent 80 bucks a month for this garbage they are spewing at me?" I had it for two months and know PBS and DVD's are the best option for me. I can watch pratically any series on disc and PBS has some pretty good docs.

After awhile It just seems that T.V. is catered to the typical uneducated public that dominate society in America.

You gave baseball a 1..with a low brain rot factor.
Is that because sleeping while the TV is on provides some sort of shielding effect?

Just kidding!!

However I did just score the complete set of James Michener's "Centennial".
A freebie..But is it any good?
