Which is why I contend that ATS is not a free-speech zone. Personal verbal attacks against members are not permitted.

Secondly, to stay on topic of a post is to address the subject of the thread, not the poster.

You are right about ATS not being a free speech zone. We accept that.

But posting insensitive remarks in a thread like that can be considered baiting, imo. Not to mention lack of class.

It's akin to letting one kid poke another and punishing the kid who reacts.

Insensitive... Baiting... "imo". In your opinion. Is being "insensitive" against the T&C? It was not baiting, in my opinion. See, that's where the problem is. It's a matter of opinion whether he was baiting someone or not. And if YOU think he was baiting... COMPLAIN. Going after him in the thread is a SURE way to cause drama. Make a complaint or ignore him. Those are your "above-board" choices. Anything else makes you as guilty as you think he is.

I starred his post because I agreed with him 100%. And I was going to post in the thread until I saw how he was being attacked.

Not to mention lack of class.

Again, your opinion. I think it takes quite a bit of class to speak out, knowing people are NOT going to agree. Hey, I do it all the time.

It's akin to letting one kid poke another and punishing the kid who reacts.

No. He didn't poke anyone. He stated his feelings for a dead man. You simply disagreed. He didn't jab at you, or any other members. He spoke ONLY to the topic of the thread. He did not bait or poke or jab you. Sorry.

Lets all stop, and think about how old we are.

Okay good.

Now let think about the thickness of our skin. Nice.

Now lets remember we are on the internet, and that we aren't going to like everyone we meet, but lets bring in our age and skin again, very good.

Now lets just go about our days.

or I suppose the whaaambulance could make a special stop eh?

eh?

5 pages and still fighting like a champion for the insensitivities against Mr. Snow and your point of view on the issue.

Actually I never liked him but I did felt very sad that a disease like cancer took away his life too early.

That is why I decided to by pass the mourning thread.

I think the issue has gone beyond the real topic behind the Freedom of speech rhetoric.

You said, "imo". Doesn't that stand for "in my opinion"?

Sorry, I won't address the rest of your post as it's full of incorrect assumptions and presumptions about me and I'm not interested in playing right now. That is not the topic of this thread.

" they do have the right through ownership to edit, modify, and delete stuff altogether, "

I didn't care about that part too much, til a cpl threads I posted on just winked out....lol

I'd love to see a DELETED THREAD GRAVEYARD [ read only ] to see what got nipped and WHY, even if it is obvious to most, there are some who would still benefit from seeing the reason for removal, if any is given.

Why are the members of ATS allowing such intense off-time degradation of a well-intended thread about the inherent responsibilities of free expression?

This thread was not intended to revisit comments about Mr. Snow.

This thread was not intended to focus on one or more members, other than the use of another member's post as an example when initiating the topic.

The direction of discussion here is highly unfortunate.

" People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid

my version;

" People demand freedom of speech to make up for the politically correct crap they've been force-fed, against their will

by assorted evil doers, with many excuses. "
