If any gamers here have been living under a rock for the past few days here is the news: Diablo 3 is going to be announced this weekend at the
Blizzard Worldwide Invitational.
How do we know this?
Blizzard in the past 3 days has been updating a splash image on the frontpage of their website, which can be viewed
here.
This image is of an icefield cracking slowly in the center. On the outside runes from the Diablo universe have been slowly appearing. So far we have
Nef, Hel and an unidentified newcomer that only appeared in the past half hour.
There are several fanforums that are working on deciphering the puzzle. One has discovered that the words Tundra and Cavern are embedded in the html.
FROZEN TUNDRA and ICE CAVERN were 2 areas late in the Diablo 2 expansion.
Also, the filenames in which the runes appeared are numbers such as 1 and 9. A maths whiz on another forums has concluded that somehow (I can't
understand his maths for it) the 2 runes so far identified equal D and O. He said there would be 4 more to come that would equal I A B and L. The
third rune just appeared but so far I can't match it to a rune.
For anyone wanting to help crack the puzzle, here is an image list of the runes from Diablo.
So far we've matched the top left and top right symbols. The bottom left is so far unmatched.
Basically, all this puzzling viral marketing means is that:
DIABLO 3 IS HERE!

IGN is now claiming that the 3 symbols actually represent Warcraft (A symbol from Frostmourne), Diablo (Hel rune) and Starcraft (Templar Caste tribe
symbol).
So what does that mean?
A completely new game? A game that somehow ties all 3 franchises into one? (gulp)

New Franchise. It's been rumored to be in the works for quite some time and it's going to be what? I have no idea. Lost Vikings maybe?
Some people are saying this is only a stunt for the release date for Starcraft 2. They wouldn't do that and will probably give out a release date at
Blizzcon.

New tidbit of conspiratorial speculation for you.
The 3 symbols so far seem to be part of a pentagram design behind the ice.
Assuming there are 2 more symbols to come, this design is made:
Diablo 3 anyone?

perhaps the "setting" is 'hell has frozen over' ?
Sounds kinda cheesy - but its all i can gather from the ice shards...
this imagery is definatly for diablo 3 though

The supposed plot for Diablo 3 will come from the Diablo-universe novels that were put out since Diablo II. Something about the power struggle between
the remaining demon lords and their eventual invasion of Heaven.

I've cracked it!!!
Weeeeeee!
The 5 seals appearing around the outside are actually the 5 seals you open to release Diablo in ACT IV of Diablo 2.
Go in-game and match them up.
I was right about the pentagram!

You're a clever little fella now lets hope it's for real lol....it'd be a shame if it were a different game they'd announce....hell I've heard
rumos of D III being like WoW as in terms of paying per month...I would do it.

Ahhh, this is going to rock my world.
I spent many hours of wasted life battling as a warrior in Diablo 1, i still owe WIRT a punch in the nose, those damn items were crap.
Least I managed to beat cows to death with it in Diablo 2..
but diablo 3?
ooooooh yeah
... soething i noted from 'other' blogs,
Which was the same with the new WOW release
www.battle.net.../forums/board.aspx
if you go to a battlenet page for diablo 3, it says its currently down
yet any other title says it doesnt exist.
how can something be down, that doesnt exist!
a hint?

Sweet! I can't wait for Blizzard's next installments. I still play Starcraft!
I had Diablo 1 & 2, they were awesome! Though I never really got into Warcraft.

The 4th rune has been added.
It is some kind of solar system model.
Pentagram still fits perfectly though.
Oh, and there is now a set of eyes looking through the centre.

I'm not putting my hopes up...a D3 would be amazing....I remember waking up Saturday mornings playing D2 with my Hammerdin owning hordes of
people.... It would bring back a lot of good memories. Diablo was the first game I ever played online !!! And what a damn good game to start on!!

Amen to that.
Diablo 1 was the first game I got into online, but the fact that people could cheat so easily turned me off after a while, but D2 brought me back.
On my old PC I had a level 89 Ice sorceress. Was crazy.
