burning to DVD

Topic started on 25-5-2008 @ 07:46 PM by Vilkata

insanely stupid question most likely, but oh well; can you just burn an AVI file to a DVD-R, or do you have to convert it to another format? and if so, how?

short answer:yes, you can.

A big factor in how is dependent of the burning software you have-Nero.....

You can also convert the file, but, yes you guessed it, you must have file converting software.

You can, but it depends on what you want to do with it after.

If you want to play it on a common DVD player to see it on a TV it depends on the software inside the DVD player, most players read only MPEG movies, although some read DIVX and XVID encoded AVIs.

So here's the deal. If you have an AVI file that you want to convert into almost any format, you can use this freeware
www.erightsoft.com...

What I'm going to assume you're trying to do is burn an AVI to a DVD for play on your DVD player. If that's no what you're trying to do, then ignore the next few paragraphs.

DVD video files are played using the VOB file type, and a bunch of them at that. The easiest way to do it is to use Nero 6 (package 1)
www.nero.com...
I think that's a free download of the full version, but it might just be a trial version. From here, you should get the burning to playable DVD option. If not, install the Nero Vision Express add-on (available in package 2) and you should be good to go. You can make backgrounds, embed music, create sub-menus and all that fun stuff that DVDs have.
