TYVM for the response. I kinda hesitate at times (I have actually only hit the Alert button twice), 'cause like the other poster said, I don't want to 'cry wolf' and waste y'all's time. TY again.

Anyone think there should be a minimum character count on OPs in new threads? I have seen a few today that are nothing but a link and some bb graphics. Maybe a minimum of a paragraph or two?

Also: Does anyone know how to insert the degree symbol with bb ?

IMO it depends on the info being imparted.

A short OP can be great, punchy and leave you wanting more info, which helps to explore a subject.

On the other hand, it can be a complete bag of doodoo.

I have a quick read and see which category it falls into.

If it's the latter, I move on.

I'm sure there's plenty of members who like what I don't, and see what I consider doodoo as something worthy of discussion.

It's a hard line to draw - personally (although I know what you mean) I'd be against it - leave it to the mods and let them consider the various merits of a short OP.

Ain't nothing wrong with alerting them though

Length should be secondary to being able to express something in a tangible manner with at least a working knowledge the English language. I have read OPs that are almost a page long and go, whaaa?

Capitalization and punctuation are a definite plus. Paragraphs are also nice and don't most computers have a spell check?

The OP might be the most poignient and profound thing around but if it is poorly presented, it falls onto the BS stack.

Really?

Grammer and punctuation snobbery on the net???

Still, mine ain't the best, so I suppose I won't have the pleasure of your company should I write a thread

Just to say the formatting is out when you scroll down the ATS homepage (-bottom left, grey section).

Apologies if this is a known issue.

Folks folks....PLEASE. Trust in Skeptic Overlord and in the staff. They will come up with something...they ALWAYS do. And if they come up with nothing and leave it like it is... then I am outta here.... LOL- Just kidding!

They still haven't come up with a solution to the Narcotics issue here on ATS... which is the source of a lot of important conspiracies.
Something happens, then people forget, thats the ATS way

i hope someone can help,,,,,

i was subcribed to the new topics feed,,,,all was good,,,,, i hadn't been around ,, so it went a couple weeks without using it,,,,,
when i opened it up it was frozen or something
so i figured i'd unsubscribe,,, then resubscribe

however,,,,,
i go to the board home,,, and on the left is all the rss feeds

i click on the new topics feed,in a new tab,,,, it tries loading for quite a while and then i get the,,,,,internet explorer can not display the webpage

this happens for the first 4, new, hot, top, ats mix
then all the rest work except for the talk podcast,,,, yet in the upper tab it does display the ats logo,,, and on the page says, "can not display this feed"

what could be causing this???? i guess it's just my computer,,, could i have something turned on or enabled that's blocking it or something

unfortunately i do have norton security

this is killing me not having that feed

also,,, i did just try the firehose new topic and it works which helps for now,,, but please someone help me and save me!!!!!!!!

It has nothing to do with the downtime, except that the reason they're performing checks is in preparation for yet another new bad-arsed database server. Today's downtime was related to the current server not handling a peak in activity very well.

I don't know how you can say this site censors or steers topics. Where else are you gonna go to talk about NWOs, UFOs, Nazis, and other ATs (alternative topics)?

Try going to a catholic church to talk about UFOs, or call Rush Limbaugh/ Bill O'Reilly to talk about NWO.

There are rules on the forum, but at least it is a forum...

We can discuss and debate just about anything save reptilians.

And yet.... ATS would not be around if people hadn't challenged traditional public forum; hence the term "alternative topic."

So, even the admin could argue, for their own sake, that we keep pushing boundaries of public forum.
