Ok all you gamers out there, I want a game.

I want:

1. Nice Graphics.

2. A real world scenic game where I can travel around and look at stuff.

3. Not so much "Shoot em up" that I am constantly fighting, but a little will be ok.

4. Maybe a clue type with stuff to solve.

I just really want to be able to explore a digital environment with "real world" locations...

Any ideas?

Voyage century is rather entertaining and you can leave your computer on and let your character 'level up' or fill up with wood or mined ore while you sleep or are at work, then you can get on with other parts of the game when you like.

elder scrolls: oblivion. fantastic PC game, and a large world to explore and immerse yourself in.

almost everyone you talk to is an adventure waiting to happen.

flight sim X is fantastic for exploring, and you can learn a bit about flying and navigating an aircraft.
i'd be happy to take you in as my co-pilot online and teach you how to fly, after all thats how i learnt.

sometimes we fly 747's or airbus's up n down the coast, other nights we'll do Fa 18 or f14 carrier landings.
landing in poor conditions is also a real challenge.
great gfx, relaxed gameplay, lots to see and explore.

and online is brilliant with users doing ATC + being copilots or wingmen, and loads of free planes,heli's, airports to add into the scenery + aircraft library

Totally agreed. Although it doesn't have any real world locations, Oblivion does have a huge world that you can explore, interact with and enjoy for months on end.

I love the elder scroll series. After your done whipping the main quests buttox there is hours and hours and hours of other things to do. When you get bored of that then you can start making stuff for yourself.

The Half Life 2 series is the game that exactly matches your description.

i just finished playing assassin's creed, awesome awesome game, great graphics and story line. it also has a nwo, illuminati twist to it also

Well Semper, it kinda depends.......doesn't it always.......

First, we need to know what kinda rig are you going to play on.
What I mean is what is the processor, amount of ran and video card of the computer you want to play on.

You see, there are some very good looking games,
HOWEVER, (as always)
The nicest looking games require a lot of good hardware.

I will with hold most suggestions till i know the computer.

I will say, consider "MYST" and it's many varients. Very nice pics, and problem solving. They are older games so cost is very low as a bonus.
Also, maybe, half-life.

Honestly, since i think you mainly have laptops, you should seriously consider a strict gaming unit (xbox360/playstaion 3....)

Let me know what you have and we can make informed susgetions that your computer will be able to run.

Sorry Semper, if you knew how many computers I deal wi5th, you would know why I don't remember the spec's of them all.

Proc and ram are great, I seem to remember that you had vista?????

This matters as not all games are vista compadable.

Your video card will be your limiting factor: this can be lessened by keeping "GAME PLAY" resolution down to say 1024X768 or 1280X1024.
(Rember, this is for "INGAME" resolution, you need not lower your over all.)

Now when you look at gaming requirements, you can use the reference nvidia 8600gt or ati 2400 pro to check the game box.

So can you give me a short cut as to what to get and how much it will cost me? I know it's all about how much you pay, but I really am on a budget. I can usually fork out some pretty good cash, but I like a bargain...

The current most bang for the buck is a varient of the Nvidia 8800gt.

DON"T!!!!! buy a factory over-clocked unit-don't do it!!!

You will find that many companies produce this card and you should find one on sale.

Some people say the 9600gt is basicly the same but with a newer/die shrunk core.
Smaller tracing makes it more efficent-waste less energy in terms of heat.

Your 500+ watt pc power and cooling will be just fine.

Now comes the fun part, diffent games are happier with different driver versions-yeah, really.
For example, I found a specific driver was the best at crysis-allowing more detail while maintaining frame rates.
This will probably be true of any game you choose, yeah, I know, so how do you know which one is the best for any given game???
you need to find a board related to that game and read, thats what I do, ya see, the newest driver is not always the best one for a specific game.
