It can be a show or a movie. I LOVE any Miyazaki film (seen a little less than half.) I just started watching Full metal alchemist, I thought it was
cheesey kidstuff when it was first airing but now in my old age I think it's pretty good. I just finished a show called Monster that was the ,
It is like a cross between The Fugitive and Silence of the Lambs. For shows I also liked Kaiji and Akagi: The Genius who descended into darkness. very
intense!
What's your favorite?

Thank you sir. Will check them out!
crunchyroll.com is a good place to watch a lot of subbed anime. The problem is they just have too many to choose randomly!

Noein
and then after that would have to be the bubblegum crisis.
To be honest, I never really gave anime a chance in the first place, but once I did, I wondered why I ever watched anything else. I love how much the
eastern religions and their ideologies are implemented in so many of the different shows, its so much more imaginative and closer to what reality
probably is than other cartoons.

Well, different stuff is good for different moods.
When in a lighthearted mood, Mahoraba is a cute, innocent one.
Sad/emotional, Rumbling Hearts.
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal: Director's Cut
A bit more action and I can go for Mahoromatic, which has a interesting plot (especially for ATS users) if you watch both seasons. (I made a thread
about it, but be warned, plenty of spoilers if you like going in knowing nothing)
Steel Angel Kurumi.
I can just list all the ones I like, and will watch again. Some of them have some adult undertones, some a bit ecchi, but no hentai.
Video Girl A.I.
Fruits Basket
Ah! My Goddess
Chobits
Comic Party
Love Hina
Midori no Hibi
Hand Maid May (spelling important to not get a Hentai)
Ai Yori Aoshi
Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X
Gokusen (until I saw the live action version that was better)
There are others I can't recall the names of. I started watching subtitles, to get the Japanese voice acting. I used to ignore people when they
said it was better, but, I now find that to be true myself.
I will watch this thread to keep up on suggestions from others.

I don't really watch much anime, but I liked the movie Akira. They are coming out with a live
action version next year. I also like Fist of the North Star and the old school Dragonball cartoons.

I have to agree with FreeThinkerIdealist, that different types are good for different moods.
Planetes is a good series if you're interested in space travel and
technology. Here's a summary of the plot:
In the year 2075, mankind has reached a point where journeying between Earth, the moon and the space stations is part of daily life. However,
the progression of technology in space has also resulted in the problem of the space debris, which can cause excessive and even catastrophic damage to
spacecrafts and equipment. This is the story of Technora's Debris Collecting section, its EVA worker, Hachirota "Hachimaki" Hoshino, and the
newcomer to the group, Ai Tanabe.

And another,
Patlabor 2 . Patlabor 2 is very hard to describe without giving a lot
away, as the movie is about peeling away the layers of society through the story and said societies relationship with the outside world. Written as a
near-future story with really only one element of science fiction (the Patlabors themselves, which are very underused in this movie), much of it can
be seen as an insight into the psyche of a national consciousness and give some understanding to the thinking behind it.

I enjoyed this movie thoroughly even though I didn't watch the first movie. It's scary how similar some of the incidents in the movie parallel
certain events in real life (i.e. False flag operation to bolster national pride.) There are so many other good shows and movies, too many to name.

I like Full Metal too. Any of the Ghost In The Shell series or movies are always a favorite. And now that Cartoon Network is running new episodes of
Bleach, I DVR them when ever I can.
SITS is almost prophetic in it's vision of technology and our future.

I havnt watched anything in a while, but Ive always loved Ghost in the Shell type stuff. Akira was good but it kinda confused me. Samuri7 is pretty
good as well. My fave tv series would probibly be Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo.

I have never really liked Akira or ghost in the shell.
respect them but have never really cared for the blade runner feel.
I want to see Tales from Earthsea and Paprika. I am slow at seeing unless it's online.

Cheers for the thread and link to watch some subbed anime MrsEsterhouse
I have been curious for a while now but never really knew where to look/go to sample some ... and I live in Japan haha
It's all over my TV, alas in Japanese and my knowledge is not that sophisticated lol
I could buy some on the base I live on, but don't really know what to look for so now I can have a look and see what is to my liking.
Any other links are appreciated
Cheers guys.

My anime begins and ends with one show.
Cowboy Bebop
A bounty hunter show... it was so cool.. i think it only ran one season, and the finnal Double episode was the sadest cartoon i have ever seen...
I hide nothing when i say that the last episode made a room full of high school senior boys Cry, we cryed like little girls during the end of that
last episode...
