I was deeply offended by the ending to I AM LEGEND that glorified suicide bombers. Knowing this film would play the Middle East, I consider it
reckless in the extreme to portray suicide bombers as heroes. Guess what? There was an alternative ending. Not only was the unused ending better than
the John Wayne style heroics at the end of the film, but it's closer to the feeling of the book. What's next Hollywood? Making heroes of plane
hijackers? Watch the alternative ending here- BEFORE IT GETS TAKEN DOWN!
Sadly, that no one involved in the process of making this film had a problem with portraying a suicide bomber as a hero shows how out of touch we all
are with terrorism.

I think it's been taken down.
I've seen the I AM LEGEND movie. What's the banned ending all about?

It's more than a bit of a stretch to say that scene that depicts Will Smith blowing himself up with a hand grenade to take out a bunch of zombies in
any way glorifies real world terrorists.

It glorifies suicide bombers? ..............? You can take anything and say it glorifies something far far way from it. The fact that he explodes
himself doesn't necessarily mean it's meant to " glorify " suicide bombers. I quess than the fact that Will Smith speeds car throughout the movie
glorified drag racers?
It just happened to happen, there are so many movies being done that something is bound to connect with something else.

Not a whole lot of suicide bombers in the middle east sacrificing themselves to save humanity. Your comparison with the characters actions in the end
of the film to the "glorification" of suicide bombers is ridiculous. It's a lot easier to equate his actions to those of a secret service agent
diving in front of a bullet for the one he's protecting.

"Banned" or just not as popular with audiences? Nobody bans much of anything anymore, and if there's a change or choice in endings, it usually has
to do with responses to test screenings. It has to do with money, not political sensitivities.
Besides, that movie pretty much tanked. People like Will Smith to be funnier.

I don't really agree with the OP's idea that this movie glorifies suicide bombers at all. I did find another website with the alternate ending
though as it seems to have been removed from the site in the original post.
I Am Legend alternative ending

Yes, it would depend on the situation. If he did it because he WANTED to out of hate, yes, a terrorist you could say. But if he knew they were going
to kill him and there was no way out, a brave act more likely. Happens in war all the time, like a soldier diving on a grenade to save his mates
because he knew he was toast anyway. If you were in the situation where you were going to die and had the opportunity to take a few of your enemy with
you, you'd probably do it.
Besides, zombies have no soul so they don't count anyway.

WHAT!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
First of all, that alternate ending SUCKED! The zombies playing totally out of character for a Hollywood style ending? How lame.
Secondly, how does someone correlate the GOOD ending of this movie with glorifying suicide bombing? That's a HUGE stretch if I've ever heard one.
He did it to save people, not just kill them.
Now, I will however agree that there was one point in the end that offended me, and that was the friggin' Ford commercial. She pulls up to the
colony in a perfectly spotless detailed car...YEAH RIGHT! That was just ridiculous. Can't even have a decent movie anymore without having such
blatant advertising in it anymore apparently.

The whole theme of the film is disgusting. Glorifying hatred and oppression against those who are "different".
The negative way in which the infected nocturnal zombies are portrayed, while making the point that those different from us should be killed was
shocking.
Surely the most realistic and peaceful approach would have been to engage the zombies in a focus group to better understand their needs and to find
some common ground for a peaceful co-existence.

Well look how we treated those poor reptilians all those years ago.
I mean sure they wanted to rule the world, but hey who doesn't?
Their cold blood prevented them from acting faster on the cold surface, thus making them relegated to the underground caves as second class
citizens.
I think the undead in the movie were a nod to them and how we stole the land from them. Also, can anyone say that we were kind to the aliens when
they landed and wanted to be friends? No, we stole their ships and forced them to work in our factories.
The zombies deserve no better then either of them. If they are too dumb to overtake us, then it is once again a matter of survival of the fittest. I
doubt they would go for the group therapy offers, it was an abysmal failure in the past.
to hell with them I say

I definitely think you're on to something here. Zombies have rights, just like living people. Just because a person is a zombie is no reason to
just kill them. What about all the little zombie orphans left behind?
How are we ever going to learn to get along, living people and zombies, unless we take the time to understand each other?

I say instead of shooting an alternate ending they should have filmed an alternate movie. This movie was nothing like the book and both endings were
terrible. The cgi on the zombies was about the worst I've seen in a big budget movie.
The glorification of suicide bombing angle is hilarious. People don't blow themselves up because its cool or the in thing to do OR if its in a movie
haha they blow themselves up because they have nothing left to live for, are mentally challenge, or have their families threatened.
Its just such a foolish notion almost as foolish as suicide bombers blowing themselves up for virgins. No one is trying to make suicide bombing chic
trust me. Now lets go find some dirt on the nwo government that plans to kill us and stop wasting efforts on bs.

Yeah, it would have been more the American way if they would have sent in a couple of bombers to bomb the whole area...
Then the pilots would have lived which is what is really important.

The whole "Zombies in love" theme completely derails the movie. It's not hard to understand why the alternate ending didn't make the final cut.

Can't really see that it glorified suicide bombings although these are sensitive times so I can see how some might veiw this as some kind of
metaphor. Did not like the ending in the final movie at all, this was better although the zombies seemed to be saying leave us alone we're happy as
we are which opens up a whole new set of conflicts for zomb and human survivors in this post apocalyptic world.

the "Zombies in love" theme justifies a good portion of the movie IMO. Right after Smith captures "Barbie" Zombie, "Ken" zombie freaks and
chases her out into the sun. Smith then records how the "Nightstalkers" have lost all semblance of societal structure, clearly misinterpreting
Ken's reaction to Barbie's capture as base hostility and nothing more. The capture of Barbie results in Ken's quest for retribution against
smith's character which would not have happened if in fact the "Zombies" had not been in love.
Two things to remember.
These are not Zombies. They are humans with a disease.
The book recounts how Smith's character became "Legend" because he was able to move around in the sunlight and went about murdering and capturing
the Infected. He became a legend in the same sense as Dracula or a Werewolf type character is legend or Myth even. In the book only the infected
survived and with no uninfected people left to be compared to they became normal people.
In my opinion the "they all lived happily ever after and cured the disease" ending was much more Hollywood. The whole movie was ruined by the 10
minute Ford Mustang commercial in the beginning.
Alternative ending would have saved the movie. The moment after the Zombies left and he looks at all the pictures on the wall and realizes that he was
in fact the monster. Nice
I do not see the tie to Suicide Bombers at all. Sounds like something the OP may have heard on Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck.

Well the suicide bombers we know today, sacrifice their lives to blow up innocent people. The goal of suicide bombing is to cause terror. Is this
what Will Smith's character did in the movie? If so, I guess it would be a fair comparison.
