US Chess Master Bobby Fischer Dies

REYKJAVIK, Iceland - Bobby Fischer, the reclusive American chess master who became a Cold War icon when he dethroned the Soviet Union's Boris Spassky as world champion in 1972, has died. He was 64.

US Chess Grandmaster Bobby Fischer has died at age 65 of unknown causes. He had some very controversial views on things, and a very amazing life. Interesting article, this guy was way Above Top Secret.

He was a great chess player. Too bad politics got thrown in the mix.


On January 17, 2008, Fischer died at the age of 64 (coincidentally, the number of squares on a chessboard)

A sad day for the chess community. Agreat one has passed. I did not realize that Bobby Fischer was so Anit-American and Anti-Jewish. Funny how they never elluded to that in "Searching for Bobby Fischer". I wonder if he thought that he would die at 64. Pretty amazing coincidence.
