What's the big deal with Boba Fett?

Topic started on 4-1-2008 @ 07:26 PM by AugustusMasonicus

Can someone explain this to me because I don't get it? After having experienced the original release of the movies and watching them numerous times after, and still I still consider Star Wars my favorite film, I like to think I'm a pretty big fan but the devotion to this minor character still baffles me. As a kid I couldn't stand him, he was the guy who had Han Solo frozen for Pete's sake.

When I saw the re-release people were cheering when he appeared in the added scene with Jaba. I had no idea that they were cheering for him and had to have a friend tell me that it was indeed for him as I thought it was for the new scene. Same goes for when him and his old man popped up in Episode 2. So what gives? Why the adoration for Mr. Fett and his daddy?

He's big in the Star Wars Extended Universe like theirs lots of stories about him and like he's brought back from the dead with a pretty good explanation and everything. I think deep down the appeal is he's just a badass version of Han Solo like Darth Vader and Boba Fett are like the only cool badguys in the original movies if i remember anyway so i can see the attraction.

Ahh, I see. So being that I have not read any of this all I know is he died in a pretty lame way and this was one of the reasons I did not understand the fantacism. So how did he get out of the Sarlak(?) and how did they make it believable?

It would appear so. Although I think feet are pretty nasty......

He's meant to be stuck descending further and further down the sarlakk thing with his manadolrian armour being the only thing that is saving him and he manages to rocket propell himself out of it. But obviously after all that no one expects him to be walking about fine and dandy straight away and someone finds him and helps him recover. It's told in a book about Jabba's nightclub. He like is made into an Anti-hero in the books and comics who like later works with Han solo and Luke or let's them go on occasion.

But theres loads of stories now about him being young as well and his role in the clone wars due to the Prequel's and everything afterwards i honestly do not understand sometimes how he became such a popular character compared to the jedi but like Yul Brunner in Westworld i suppose theirs just something cool about a bad bounty hunter.

Lets face it, the Mandalorian body armor is simply cool.... What kid didn't want lassoes, rockets, and a jet pack along with a menacing helmet? The appeal here should be obvious, hehe....

I was about to say the same thing: he's cool because of the Mandalorian battle armor. The fact that I know the name of his armor proves it. Plus, in his helmet is actually a 360 degree display, so it's not just a normal visor. Also explains why he's almost never caught off guard. How cool is that?!

You're right and wrong at the same time. Dengar actually is the one who saved him from the Sarlak. It's in the "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" book by Kevin J. Anderson. It gives nice back stories into all the bounty hunters you see on the deck of the Executer during Empire.

I think the deal with Boba is the fact that he is a complete badass. When you read into his story more you start to realize how untouchable he really is and how he is feared throughout the galaxy for his ruthlessness, cunning, and intelligence.

Boba Fett FTW!

Now this is the part, as someone who only watched the movies, does not get. I just remember seeing Jedi in the theater and thinking, 'What a really lame way to kill this guy.' He got poked with a stick for Pete's sake.

Now I realize the books came out much after the original release of the movie but no amount of writing can undo that weak demise. And the thing even burped after it ate him.....poor S.O.B.

Another possibility could be that Boba Fett was the only clone that was allowed to age normally. That sets him apart from all of the others that are his copies. They are inferior in the sense that he has more worldly experience in hunting than they do.

Now we know why he worked for Jabba. Way too many creds not to take the jobs Jabba was offfering.

Another reason Lucas is overrated. He had Bobba go out like a bitch being swallowed by a huge sandy vagina. Lucas admits to regretting him going out like that.

Boba Fett rules.

He is a bounty hunter, which already garners quite a few cool points. But I think it is the armor and the air of mystery that surrounds him. Doesnt talk, doesnt flop around like some stupid Jar Jar character and he aint cute and fuzzy like those Ewoks.

He is in it for the money and he doesnt take any mess, even from the likes of Jabba the Hut.

Plus his jet pack kicks all sorts of a$$.

THE best character in the series IMO, after Lord Vader of course.

It's probably already been stated on here,

But Boba Fett is hands-down THE most dangerous bounty hunter in all of Star Wars. There is a ton of background story/expanded universe material about him to read.

He did not die in the Sarlacc - he fell through wearing all of his gear and blasted it from within - there is a three book series - Bounty Hunter Wars (I think) that detail what happened, in the first book.

Boba Fett lives as long as Solo and the rest of the crew - in the recent novels, Legacy of the Force there is a book entirely about him and he becomes a recurring character in it as well.

Just thought I'd put my two cents out there.
