"Fake fur is not eco-friendly, use real fur"

Topic started on 3-12-2007 @ 08:15 AM by Beachcoma

Here's a fascinating spin to the fur debate:

Fur debate heats up

[...]

It was important to explain the real story of the fur industry," said Herscovici. "And that is 'if you care about nature and protecting the environment, fur is an excellent choice.' "

One ad criticizes synthetically made fake fur as containing petrochemicals, "non-renewable resources that cause environmental problems."

"Fur, by contrast, is a natural, renewable and sustainable resource," it says.

Herscovici said the council wanted to capitalize on current interest in all things green by getting the message out that fur is a biodegradable, renewable resource.

I am at a loss for words. I'll just laugh again.

This is exactly why I believe that violence may solve some issues. People like this aren't too uncommon either. That's why you have guys like me who'll go to jail to get my point across. I think there's so many scumbags with bad causes getting their point across, the good guys need some infantry too.

WTF is wrong with people, Beachcoma? Seriously.........

The anti-poaching units of Nepal and Bangladesh are armed with rifles, and they do shoot the poachers

One thing I don't agree though -- the burning of the confiscated furs. It seems like such a waste to me. The animal is already dead -- letting a taxidermist mount it for display in a museum seems like a better solution.

Are those anti-poaching squads hiring?

I'm not certain if they're hiring, but I'm pretty sure they accept volunteers. It's a dangerous job -- you might be shot by poachers. That's why the park service people are armed themselves.

Good thing I've proven to be invincible. Oh, and I have plenty of guns.

I'm ok with people wearing fur. For the most part if the trade is well regulated then the animals are very well looked after and given a quick death.

Which in all fairness is better than a lot of the animals/food that ends up on my/your plate.

And a neighbour of mine has two big furry cats, winter is coming and I fancy some new slippers.

What I really can't stand though is fat people in lycra and what makes it worse?

Animal print lycra.

These people should be hunted down and killed without mercy.

I promise, I don't wear animal print lycra!

I think back to the days of the Native Americans, before Europeans totally destroyed their culture. They would hunt an animal, eat it, wear it and make tools out of the rest of the parts.

I have no problem with wearing the fur or skin of an animal that is used for food and what not, or from an animal that has died of natural causes. However I know that's usually not the case.

Does anyone know if leather is made from the hydes of beef cattle?
