Making a hot dog dissapear using microwaves

I agree. I admit I was having a little fun at the OP's expense. But, I don't think we get enough thread like these. Very intertaining. Even if some people have their own opinions of this expirement, one thing is for sure: it sparked many members imaginations.

At least he was expirementing with alternative theories. After all, where'd we be with out imaginative experiments throughout history. Probably still sitting around the campfire not knowing how to read a thread like this on our computers that wouldn't exsist.

I look forward to the next thread the member posts.

All i have to say about this thread is. I'm glad you took an effort to do an experiment, but please read about your experiment 1st.

Why are posts like this increasing in frequency so much lately here at ATS. It's one thing to poke fun as others (including myself) have done in this thread, but c'mon. Ever hear of Karma? How do you expect to live a fulfilled life with all that anger and hate.

This is an important current topic?

Sigh. I have to say, ATS has fallen a looooong way.

On a side note, your answer to this: You would be crushed by atmospheric pressure, what remains will be cooked eventually and in the end the intense pressure an heat would vaporize whatever made it that far down..

As goofy as the experiment was, I'm sure glad the OP started this thread. IMO this place needs more of this kind of thing. I just don't understand the posters that are outraged by something that adds a little fun to this place.

What a bunch of crapola. If you don't like a little light hearted stuff every once in a while, don't read the threads that turn humorous. There's a couple thousand others for you to peruse. Your complaint posts waste the time of those here that occasionally want to enjoy themselves.

I also like the "Moon is Cheese" thread.

I think I've only flagged a thread or two, but I'm flagging this one. I hope the OT realizes there are those here that appreciate his effort, whether it be in a serious or comic manner.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with this kind of thread and it is in skunk works which is the appropriate forum for it.

I am just disappointed that it was on the "Important Current Topic" links.

Thank you for the op Jed..amid the dreary hoaxes perpetrated (and which ATS members have fended off quite nicely)and the genuine stories that are so mundane that bring in things we can do almost nothing about, this was genuinely funny.(IMO). If I wanted to read something "really scientific" I go the Scientific American, watch real conspiracies, then the Wall street Journal, read some hot sex stories well ..uhmmm I'd read the Bible.Enjoy a great assortment with one stop shopping I come here, ATS. That is why its so popular and is a mega mall of ideas, stories, and just plain fun. When we take ourselves and others too seriously, well its then time to 'detox' and get away from the PC and hug a tree. We call it a "Reality Check".

The experiment raises serious questions in another area we are all too familiar with. Laundry..Check your drawers and look for your socks The majority will note..there is at least one pair with a left or right missing. where did it go?. where do they all go..could it be that the spinning cycles in a wash open a mini portal or vortex through which they disappear, what was the lunar alignment at the time and proximity to ley lines, (the latter two believed related to anti gravity)? Can we dispense with these accelerators such as Cern's when we have something that appears to operate splendidly at room temperatures, and has meager energy requirements? Are we in effect at the threshold of a new household science?

The answers to these and other questions..will only be revealed hopefully here first at ATS

lol. what can I say? this is a huge response & I never expected it to go this way at all. some posts are hilarious and made me laugh out loud, to the point of crying. Thank you so much.

Great work there. Perhaps If I ever get a grant or a job doing this kinda work I can hire you to be my graphic artist.
Now, it's ok to make fun of this. I laughed about it too,but at the same time I wanted to prove that imagination is still wild and apparent on the internet and with intelligent people. someone said they worked with heat and water, that could be another way to go about this. I was afraid to include liquids in this experiment.

To be honest, I was not expecting the hot dog to enter the phone line either. This was the first time afterall, and we all know the first time something always goes wrong. I also forgot to mention that before I placed the hot dog in the microwave I took the pay phone off the hook, and made sure there was a busy tone and that the phone was receiving sound. I did this by blowing into the receiver.

This cost me nothing. I had 1 microwave, 1 pay phone and 1 hot dog. Ok, so the hot dog did cost me $1.25. Optimus Crime said he wanted to bite my face off, that's funny in itself. but why is he so angry? I know I most of this doesn't make any sense. but like someone said, i'm like a kid doing crazy things!

Saying that, I'm glad I made people laugh and think. As I said before, I am an Art Bell fan and I been listening to his radio show for years. So you can also thank him for opening up my mind to new ideas.
What's next for me? well, I turned in my report to my Art teacher. In it, I recreate the experiment using black and white photographs. As of now, this stuff is considered to be ART because I can't prove anything. So I took advantage of the project and made it out to be an "ART project". But from the response that i've seen and the interest, rest assured I will be making a short video with real live demostrations and perhaps even more wild ideas for the experiment. I'm thinking before the end of the year and maybe someone will help me and send it to YouTube for me.

In the meantime, thanks for all the support and keep the laughs coming. I really liked the guy who ate the hot dog and made it dissapear. Now, that's really comedy gold.

I'm somewhat disappointed in the mods on this one. Not because of the OP's thread idea, but the response from the community here on ATS. In the Crypto forum, a member started a thread about how he believes dinosaurs did not exhist.

Within minutes, people were berating him left and right for his personal view. It didn't take long for a mod to come in and try to level the playing field and cool everyone out.

Maybe SW's is run differently than other forums here, but it just seemed kind of f'd up on the part of some of the members here for going on for 5 pages with jokes and snide remarks in the direction of JediMiller. Ya it's kind of silly, but still a pretty cool idea if you think about it. It's a good change from all the depressing "war predictions" and "economic collapse is imminant" posts that have been taking up space here lately.

Normally I don't get aggitated by people's responses, but I just felt it was unlike the ATS community to respond in this manner.

Anyway, JediMiller: this was an interesting idea to ponder. Good luck on your future experiments. Star.

I came here on accident a few days ago. I was doing a search on the Acton Fire because I live here and it started close to me. I have two babies, two parrots and three dogs that I need to watch out for.

It was just kind of interesting/kind of funny. Definitely DIFFERENT! Until I read this! OMG!!! How incredibly funny! How can I forward this stuff without letting my friends or family know I have actually been hanging out here reading some of this stuff?!

I couldnt agree with you more its sad that there is stuff like this on here because new people that come to this site will totally just think its retarded. i understand that you should be able to talk about what ever you want on here but this is just stupid i dont get it. and another thing i dont understand is why these moderators delete peoples posts for no reason at all in another thread some guy simply told a female on this site that in her picture she was pretty and they DELETED HIS POST how stupid. he just complimented her thats it. and hes new here. this site is starting to remind me of the government. there is way to much control on this site i feel like i have no freedom when i talk on here and that i have to watch everything i say. there are so many rules and regulations its not even funny. i thought this was suppose to be a site for free thinking and giving opinions and if someone wants to compliment someone why cant they. im seriously thinking of starting my own sight where you are aloud to speak freely and say anything you want because thats the way it should be. freedom is a huge thing to me.

I was immediately healed and wanted to do a quick graphic to express it. I also seriously considered getting the old microwave from the garage

When I first came here one year ago I instantly had my clashes with (some) mods. It was in a thread about the Iraq war that got so hot they closed it. Really p* me off.

To me it seemed like censorship and in my mind popped up an allegory: ATS was like a KZ camp and the mods KAPOs. Yes, I considered quiting too.

Since then I moderated my view and came to understand terms and rules are needed if anarchy is to be avoided and seriousness and credibility promoted.

Seriousness is not the mark of this thread or the SW forum in general. From the responses I see it is nontheless refreshing to a majority of members.

Don't get serious here, its humour, friends.

Let me say, I too don't understand all the mod rulings and in some I disagree, but I keep it to myself as a reference, because what I've come to learn, this is first of all an American site. As we know in Europe the codex of moral and behaviour can be quite different in America.

All this to say, when you visit someones house you adapt to the rules in place there.

And yes, I LOVE AMERICAN HUMOUR!

Jedimiller, you should get a scriptwriter to turn this into a comedy ...about a nerd and his microwave.

Jedi and the posters who supported you restore my faith we are going to be alright on this planet. And Blaine and the poster who did the multi shots were indeed exemplary.

And Jedi..If you want an inexpensive source for hot dogs..we have chicken franks at .59 cents a pack..here in S.C you must have used a nathans frank or something

This is just a stupid prank to get people to put hot dogs in the microwave and burn them badly. Nothing happens the hot dog just smokes and smells very bad. Honestly this wasn't even that funny.
