Mom Disciplines Bullying Daughter

I was very impressed when I read this article.It's too bad there aren't more parents out there like this.Bullying has become far too common in schools and for the most part teachers hands are tied in what they can do about it.There definitely needs to be more discipline come from the parents for these kids.Here is a link to the article. www.msnbc.msn.com...

I can see why the mother did it. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it though.

Shouldn't discipline be something constructive having to do with the "crime"? Something such as apologizing and making amends to the girl she bullied? I've been taught in parenting classes that the "punishment" should fit the crime. Though punishment isn't the right word. Discipline is better. Punishment is often arbitrary and unfairly applied.

In a way, this feels to me like the child was bullied for bullying. Public humiliation? I'm not sure that was the right answer.

But then, if my kids ever start bullying other kids, I may be at my wits' end and choose to do the same.

It does seem a little hard on the kid, but a real point has been made and hopefully the child will understand the good that can come from it.

Bullying sucks the more that can be done to stop it the better.

Cruel to be kind.

This was a fair punishment for bullying in my opinion. Some parents could react with angry backhands or even apathy which achieves absoletely nothing.

I bet she won't do it again. And I believe it was a mature decision by the parent, no shouting or intimidation but simple accountability and responsibility from the child.

This also spreads a message to other kids and will be highlighted in school social conversations as a passive warning.

Nobody likes to be bullied, and nobody likes to be embarrassed.

I wish there were a few parents like that at my school all those years ago when I was hounded by small-minded little creeps!

The fact that the parent is also confronting the issue with a positive campaign is a step in the right direction too.

I loathe bullies to this day and will stand up for anyone I can, who is being intimidated. I remember how it feels and how a whole life (mine included) can be affected, sometimes permenantly and with drastic effects because of bullying.

Never again. Ever.
