The End Of "Post In My Thread" Threads - ALL MEMBERS READ

<<  1    2  >>

Topic started on 8-3-2007 @ 06:38 PM by SkepticOverlord

Hello BelowTopSecret.com users and members.

The End Of "Post Here" Threads

BelowTopSecret.com was created because general "off-topic" chit-chat was growing on ATS, and we needed to find a way to offer a "lounge" to relax with our friends when not focusing on the more serious topics on ATS.

However, all of the efforts of tone, civility, and decorum which as made ATS what it is today still applies on BelowTopSecret.com. This domain was created to provide members with an off-topic place to relax, not a place to engage in pointlessness.

As a result, we will no longer allow the simplistic "post in my thread" type threads anywhere on BTS. We'll be closing these threads, and trashing any new ones that pop up.

If you enjoy these types of threads, well... we're sorry... but we (staff) feel that topics like that do not reflect well on the the type of ATS/BTS/PTS community culture we've all worked hard to build.

Thank you.

Does this include the A-Z games (member names, bands, dead celebrities etc) and other similar threads which can be seen as just as pointless (no pun intended) but are still fun to post in from time to time.
Is this for threads that appear to be just for gathering points?

It includes pointless threads....similar to "Count to 100000" and "say something to me" type threads.

Over the last few weeks and months, we have seen a trend of threads that really serve no purpose. When I first signed up with ATS, I participated in a lot of these "game" threads. But from what I see today, when compared to previously, was that the threads still served a purpose. Whether it was a, "What Would You Do?", "What do you prefer?", a lot of interesting questions were raised and threads were not consisting of "One Liners". Lately, this trend has emerged, and I was expecting something to be mentioned.

I agree with this, but I think some of the "Game Threads" that we have seen on BTS can certainly serve a purpose to understanding our fellow members.

With that said, I think we seen this one coming.

I just wish people would get serious about the three word story game and use their minds to make it readable. Don't post three words three times in one post. Really, really think about a story line and keep it true. That's the only thing that bugs me about it. Make a story, not some plot that changes, to another plot that changes to an ending that starts from the beginning and ends in the middle deal. I really like the three word story game but only if people can be an Author. Just my 2 cents worth on that subject.

Sorry just wanted to edit to say, if a three word post doesn't make since then it should be deleted. I know that's probably more work for the Mods, but if you warn them with some kind of penalty then maybe we can break the record for a story with ATS minds as the Author.

here here!! well said SO i honestly dont see the point to threads like that except for gathering points. in my opinion posts should be thorough and well thought out not just something to gather points. this is a community people not a place to profit off SO and the others who moderate this site and pay their hard earned money just to keep it running.
that being said someone outta go stop them ebayers trying to sell their ats/bts accounts for money just because they have "imeasurable ammounts of points"

Ok! Usually a sticky like this is locked so because it is still open I'll put my two cents worth!

I'm here for the fun of it! I'm here for the word games because they make me laugh! And yes you can learn the type of person by these threads.

I'm interested in ATS, nut there just seem to be too much to read and to many people that just can't handle other peoples other view point. You see there insecurities realy come out in mass desperation to proove they are smarter than the other person. When the bottom line is that if you truely are smart than you respectfully listen to all veiwpoints. That's how you become smart. Not by just spewing a bunch of I'm smarter than you bull crap-o-la!

Anyway, I like the Answer A Question With A Question because it has to do with General Psychology and Manipulation of Conversation!

No need to list them all but I agree that you can get to know the other members through these games.

As far as the post in my thread because I want to have the large reply list in the forum. That kinda stuf is just nonsense!

IMO BTS threads have always been for fun and sort of pointless. Also, ATS is loaded with pointless (your terminology) BTS threads.

If the point is to clean house, i hope it will be done all across the board and not just a select few, just to be fair.

I'll be the first to admit that I have no idea what happens behind the scenes here, or what it takes to run a site like this. However I do agree with the popularity of this site. But I do wonder if this will be a good thing in the future, these types of threads are popular, and create traffic/posts, and this traffic creates revenue for this site. My point is why fix what didn't appear to be broken.

I'm as far as I know am not responsible for these types of threads, most of these threads where inspired by other websites, so in the end you would have lets say 10 different threads based on games or dumb sayings all right here, kind of like wal-mart, a web surfer would not have to goto 10 different sites to get what they want.

Some of these threads IMO did violate the T&C and should have been closed based on that, but others were cute, funny, or just fun to read.

Don't forget, if you disagree with a thread closure, you are always free to contact the mod who closed it via U2U and ask that it be reopened.

Mods tend to be busy, so it might take a while to get a response, but I don't know a single mod who wants to upset anyone -- even though we often do as a consequence of the nature of the job.

Deciding how to handle threads and discussions involves a lot of judgment calls, and like anything which does, can involve mistakes.

A mod may not change his or her mind based on your feedback, but it does happen. We're mods, after all, not gods.

So if you disagree with a mod decision, please let us know!

And please, even if you're upset, try to be nice.
