Crocodile Hunter - Steve Irwin is Dead

not only will the people of the world mourn this loss, the animals of the world will grieve with us. his wife was probably with him at the time of the incident , she always seemed to be at his side, so i feel really bad for her.

i now pour my fosters in his memory.

I mean no disrespect but, I think we all saw this one coming. Everytime I watched the show I would say this fool is going to be killed. But you know what, he went out doing what he loved to do...informing the masses about animals. He knew the risks but he unlike most of us saw what he wanted in life and wouldn't let anything stop him.

Just hit the local news here in Alberta. They didn’t have much to say.

Well the guys dead. Its said, but its the risk he took to jump into and around hordes of nasty predators. Had to figure it would happen eventually. Honestly, I dont have much sympathy, about as much as I did when the Grizzly man got eaten by..well..a grizzly.

Natural Selection I guess.

But I mean, I will miss his work, I think he did a good job showing people the world of aussie animals.

And atleast he died doing what he loved: pissing animals off.

The news here is that his wife is hiking in Tasmania somewhere at the moment so there is a chance that she hasn't heard the news yet. (see link below)

I actually find myself quite saddened. He was someone who was both cool and uncool at the same time in a weird way. There's another South African guy who goes around picking up really dangerous snakes but he's just kind of creepy. Steve Irwin's unaffected, slightly unhinged and bug-eyed, enthusiasm was infectious and strangely warming. Plus he was interesting enough that Cartman got hooked on him for an episode of South Park. ("I'm just going to stick my thumb... up this croc's ass...")

He also featured his family in his programmes, and it's particularly sad to think how they'll all be grieving right now. I'd think he'd be going "WOW! I went kinda EARLY, but mate, I had a REALLY GOOD RUN while I was around!" He'd somehow find something really great about being dead... but his wife and kids must have a huge hole in their lives right now.

Who would have expected him 2 go out like that?No one knows what fate may have in store 4 them...

They aren't. They're only lethal if they tear an artery, or hit you in the chest region. If they get you in the leg, you're more likely to suffer tearing damage from the stinger coming out of your leg than from the venom. They won't even actively use their stinger. Probably 99% of stings are accidents from stepping on them or brushing against it as you swim near them (which probably was the case here). A Stingray will always try to just swim away from danger instead of trying to defend itself, and a sting is an instinctive reaction.

RIP Steve Irwin, you'll be missed.

Man this is this last story I expected to see after getting up from a nap. I like this guy alot and have seen many of his episodes. Mr. Irwin, with my full respect, you will be missed and I will never look at animals the same because of you.

i bet his daughter will be disapointed, i mean you grow up knowing your day put his nosr in a crocs eye an wrestled them, then people make fun of you by saying "well you dad got killed by a stingray"

its good to think his wife didnt witness his death.

he might have pissed off animals , but he probably did more for them then 99% of humans.

did anyone else think this guy looked like rowdy piper? i always had that impression when i saw him.

RIP Steve Irwin. I loved his shows on Animal Planet. Damn, it ain't gonna be the same no more RIP man. This is sad.

Wow, that really sucks. No more Steve Irwin. I feel for his wife and little girl...he took them everywhere with him (also putting thieir lives at risk.)
I hate to say this, but at least it was him and not his daughter. That man had it coming to him, poking those poor animals. Krikey!

I went swimming with sting rays in the Caribbean about a year and a half ago and they are such the gentle creature. Their body feels like silk and they brush up on legs ever so gracefully. They really are peaceful creatures, but I know they can be deadly. My dad used to go fishing and once we went at night (this was when I used to live in the Caribbean, 10 years ago), and he actually caught a stingray. I was terrified because I was young. The stingray kept thrashing in the water and my dad had trouble holding it back. He eventually cut the line. I respect stingrays but I know their power.

as a fellow QLD'er, i am sad to see that Steve has died. ALOT of people thought it was a joke here in QLD at first but unfortunatly...it wasn't. those who have met the man away from the camera know just what a wonderful & passionate man he was. my heart goes out to Bindi & Bob as well as Terri.
