Am I the only one who's been noticing these in the news?

A similar story about JetBlue was discussed on this thread:

found these on the net:

Is this a common problem that just happens to be reported more lately?

These incidents are not happening any more often than they have been for the last ten years.

What is happening is that they are being reported by the media more often.

Anybody who wants to verify this just has to go to the NTSB website and look under aviation incidents.

Thanks JIMC5499, wasn't sure if that was common or not. Love the signature!

Figure it this way. Commercial Aviation in the US has a safety rate of 99.999%.

Sounds pretty good right?

There were 11,755,000 commercial flights last year in the US. That works out to 111 reportable incidents by CFR 121 and CFR 135 commercial carriers. Figure on an incident about every 3 1/2 days.
