BTS Wargame 2005: Scenario 2- Taiwan Straits Ignite

there i said it regrettable but true

it seemed loike a good idea - but now , i give up

now the judges are taking a hands off approach - i predict that the tail will start to wag the dog - and i cannot be arsed with that . i have already spotted two orders that require challenges [ see below ]

i wrote up my battle plans - and do not recognise the out come , units i specifically said i wasnt attacking have been sunk - and there is no sign that the attacks i ordered ever occured


anyone still playing china shoukld officially challenge the transit times of the RN and USN deployments

westpoint claims that he can get a force from US atlantic bases to guam in 4 days - via pera harbour - you cannot transit panama to pearl in 4 days un less you can acchieve 50 kt +++

like wiswe - RN submarines cannot transit the clyde to guam in 137 hours - [ assuming circumpolar navigation ] at any speed - they will not even clear the bering straigts in the time goven - thats assuming they make full speed under the ice

no sour grapes or recriminations - it was fun - i just do not care to continue the way things are heading

See your U2U I sent you. May I suggest that all the China players talk to each other? It was specifically posted in the thread that Chinese SSNs were going after US warships launching cruise missiles at Taiwan.

As of now I rescind what was stated earlier. All combat will be stated, and all weapons will be listed and sent to me in U2U and I will decide losses/damage caused and post results in the thread. I am attempting to feel my way through this, and didn't want to micromanage, however as this may be a problem, then this is my solution.

And as far as the attacks you wanted to happen, Your plans didn't give a time frame as to when they were happening, if they were immediate, or if you were going to give word when they kicked off or what. If they were supposed to be immediate, then I'll work them out and post results.

Actually under the ICE they are going at 20knts, and then once they reach hawia they then speed up to 30 knts.

I was using the Time = Distance over speed.

If they went at 20 knts all the way then they would reach Guam in 165 hours (My bad figures).

Actually It takes 15 Regular days but only 4 game days. My Atlantic Ships are all traveling at 25-30 Knots.

Ok, back to the game folks. I made changes based on his comments, so now it's back to the shooting.

hi , i have returned - to publicly eat my ` humble pie ` and oppologies to all on the wargames threads for any insults . and dummy spittling i engaged in last year

i had a bad day - and just let things get on top to an unnaceptable degree - taking out my fustrations on the world was uncalled for . i have stopped feeling sorry for myself - this is olny a game after all - its supposed to be fun .

i a now working on CLEARER battle orders and will be talking to my fellow chicom commanders and allies

lets hope that our little war rallys with a vengence for 2006


PS - one observation i do have , is that i violently dislike the idea of linking game time to real time . it just gets confusing and serves no usefull purpose

i sugest that battle orders be time stamed - with the H-HOUR commencement time , and projected duration of any manouvers


if a judge can set a the game date - and then people can date and time stamp thier orders accordingly

That's not a bad idea about the time stamp. We're going to make today 1 May 06. Picked arbitrarily. From now on, time stamp when the movement/orders start, and when the approximate finish time will be.

China I believe it's your move. I'm not going to impose the 24 hour time limit, however please make your moves in a reasonable time frame.

Ok, so we're picking up from the last actual war post which shows at 12/30/05 19:30 hours my time. At that time the deployment time for the UK subs was for them to deploy 2 hours after, and reach Guam after 32 hours realtime. It's 1217am 1/4/06 here now. At 0217 HST 1/4/06 the UK subs will deploy, and will reach Guam at 1217 HST 1/5/06. Game is back on as of now folks.

**BREAKING NEWS FROM CNN**

This is a special report from CNN. There have been a series of explosions at the Panama Canal causing massive damage to the canal. There is ro report of damage to the locks, but all traffic through the canal has stopped. There were reports of gunfire and grenade explosions shortly before several massive explosions occured at each end of the canal.

**BREAKING NEWS FROM CNN**

This is CNN with a special report. Three large explosions have been reported in the Bering Straits near Alaska. It has been reported that several submarines were transiting the area near the time of the explosions. Several fishing boats were reported in the area hours before the explosions occured, but it is unknown if they are related to the incident or not. More details as they become available.

I have decided that I am letting Russia rejoin the scenario. It's Wed at 8pm HST, they will be making their first move after everyone acknowledges receipt of this message in the thread. If anyone has any objections, let me know in a U2U.

The RN is reporting that it has lost 3 submarines, it is requesting military assistance from any crews in the area, the UK demands to know who is responsible for attacking a british ship in US territorial waters and the clear murder of british sailors.

The loss of british sailors is in the clear hundreds , how 3 submarines managed to run into a minefield in US waters is demanded.

PLA - military deployments [ public version ]


Operation : SAFFRON

Commencement date : 00:00 hours , 1st may , 2006

H-Hour : 00:00 hours , 1st may , 2006

the actial fruition of deployments will take different times - to be largely decided by the judges

Forces committed : air defence artillery , missile troops , coastal defence artillery , internal security troops , the police

Reserves allocated : second line units and territorial reserves

Summary of objectives : implement a hightened state of security and prime all defensive forces

This is one step below implementation of full martial law – And designed to put PRC on a war footing

Line of departure : all PLA , PLA-M and PLA-AF bases , reserves depots and government offices

Target location : the entire PRC land mass


Operational plan :

1 – all military leave cancelled

2 – all reserve forces put on 24 hour notice to mobilize

3 – 10% [ aprox ] of PLA reserves called to duty with immediate effect [ these are units that are “ vital “ or elite formations – such as commandoes and air defence gunners etc ]

4 – AAA and SAM batteries , plus support units deployed to guard key locations – bridges , harbours , the 3 gorges dam etc etc etc


5 – restrictions on foreign nationals – travel by foreign nationals will be restricted


5b – “ human shields “ and hostages – as ordered previously – all the alledged hostages were rounded up by PLA-N troops and put on swiss charter planes

There are no KNOW foreign nationals held against their will in PRC [ except convicts jailed under Chinese civil law prior to the current crisis ]


6 – VCPs to be set up at the approaches to key facilities – all military / defence establishments will be surrounded by a cordon


7 - Strategic miliarty routes and MSRs wil be restricted to military traffic only


8 - Non military Rail traffic on strategic routes will be “ bundled “ – to allow free flow of military traffic

9 - private citizens are urged to avoild none essential journeys

10 – harbour defence and boon maintanence plans implemented at all ports

Notes :

These plans and deployments do not affect or modify any offensive plans previously ordered .

Also Minister “ watch the rocks “ retains full operational control of all forces dedicated to the tiawan crisis

The UK will begin its own investigation into who planted the mines clearly inside US terrirtorial waters and partially inside international waters and will make sure the country IS punished for this act.

These vessels where moving through an area with no hostile intent, the ships where ordered to sail with thier weapons still in the magazine.

British military intelligence, SIS and GCHQ will analyse every aspect of the incident, the UK requests that it be allowed the use of any US bases nearby and any US forces nearby, within reason, to help in the investigation, a RN ship investigated for survivors has found one person alive, this person will be brought back to the UK via the RAF Tristar aircraft once an special mine clearance team, investiagation team and medical team has arrived on the same plane. The RN ship will arrive at the nearest US port and the person will be transported to the nearest hospital facility until the aircraft arrives to extract the subject. The plane will leave from RAF Brize Norton and land USAF AFB which will take 7 hours, after that the plane will be under US command while in thier airspace, until it lands at the nearest base to the casualty.

The UK would like to thank the US for allowing them to fly jets through thier airspace, if however the above is unable to be achieved the RAF will fly towards canada which has allowed us acess.

Anonymous sources within the Pentagon have stated that several Chinese mines have been found in the Bering Straits near where three Royal Navy subs were sunk recently. The sole survivor of the incicident has confirmed that the subs were travelling at high speed, when they suddenly came under torpedo attack. They had no time to escape the attack before they were hit.

In other news, US forces have seized the city of Taipei, along with several key airbases on the island of Taiwan. "Our forces have been fighting on a limited scale, but the seizure of these airfields and the port near Taipei will allow us to reinforce US Army forces on the island. We should see an increase in the number of troops fairly quickly now." Sources indicate that air strikes, and cruise missile attacks have decimated the Taiwanese forces on the island.

The mining of US water – in order to deny access to the pacific by hostile warship was a legitimate act of war – the allies are reminded that in order to legitimize its acts of piracy , invasion and genocide against peace loving china and here provinces

The USA declared war – against china – if USA wants war – china will give it war , and the RN warship had no business in a war zone – their hasty departure , course and reckless speed all amounted to one thing – their hostile intent

The UK brought this tradegy on them selves .

The RN with aid from the US have investigated the crime scene and have found several chinese mines, how these mines got inside US territorial waters is unkown but they where near several US ports and shipping lanes. This blatent attempt on civilian and military lives is unethical, unjust and frankly illegal!

We demand that the PRC provide all the information about thier mines in the area and apologise and pay recoperations for the UK casualties which where attacked before the UK has declared war on the PRC!

The UK had hoped for a peaceful resolution but it seems that the leaders of the PRC have no peace on thier minds, the UK will pledge its full military support to ANY US led move if the PRC does not do the right and just thng and standown its forces, pay recoperations and to give the information requested, only if the above is met will the UK standown and come to the negotiation table.

Until the people's repuplic of china agrees and commits to the above the UK will stand with the US as; an ally, a brother in arms and a blood cousin.
