1950's Science Fiction

Topic started on 21-11-2005 @ 06:40 AM by FactoryLad

I love it. Something about the paranoid cold war, the soviets being represented by aliens from another planet...

And besides that, their so cheesy. I love them.

I suppose some of my favourites would be "Earth V's the Flying Saucers" and "Invaders From Mars". Classics!

Does anyone else share my love of these gems?

The Day the Earth Stood Still, of course, is a science-fiction classic. But my favorite film from the fifties has got to be Forbidden Planet. It has been often suggested that this film was the inspiration for Gene Roddenberry's TV series, Star Trek. Whether this is true or not, Forbidden Planet was, what I would call, a great science-fiction film. I especially loved the Disney animation used to depict the "Creature from the ID" when it would hit the force-field fence. A great scene.

If you younger ATS/BTS members have never seen this film, I heartily recommend it.

"The day the earth stood still", a classic movie indeed and with a very important message, still relevant today.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Plan 9 from Outer Space!

Ohh yeah, I definitely love those old sci fi flicks. The ones already mentioned plus the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", "The Thing", "This Island Earth", there are dozens that are really good.

There used to be a show on late Saturday nights locally called Nightmare Theatre, hosted by Sammy Terry [ceme-tary haha] which was a must-see every week in my youth. I've rented a couple of the old classics, but my kids won't even sit through 'em. I guess after you've grown upon the CGI stuff they can do today, the older movies are just too cornball. But I'm still a sucker for the old sci-fi and horror flicks.
