PIN number needed for 18 movies on Sky.

You now need to enter your PIN number when watching 18 rated movies on Sky before 10pm.
I personally think this is a good thing as there is constant debate as to the relationship (if any) between violence on television and it's influence on young people.
Before now it has been difficult for parents to control what their children watch on TV, especially now a lot of children now have TVs in their bedrooms. Even though you could use Parental locks before, I imagine a lot of parents could not be bothered or didn't understand it. The fact you now have no choice in having to enter the PIN for these movies means that everyone will be affected and there is no excuse anymore for ignorance or laziness.
Hopefully the majority of parents will not give out their PIN number to the kids (the financial ramifications from doing so through Box office will probably be incentive enough for most parents) and anyone that is even half as responsible as they should be will check to see what their kids are asking them to let them watch.

I think that this simple action will hopefully make an at least small, but signifiant, change for the better in the long term.
This is one small step to being able to censor what kids watch indirectly through technology, instead of having to rely on what is obviously lazy and careless parenting.

Oh and to anyone that thinks this is another step towards Big Brother - that's what irresponsible behaviour and the inability to share some of the blame gets you..

That's interesting but why don't they require the PIN after 10pm?
A lot of kids are still up at that hour and they have TVs in their rooms.

True enough, I agree that they should have it all the time.
I guess the guys (and/or girls) behind it have never stayed up late with the headphones on LOL.

You can request it to be on permently, by ringing up sky and asking them. it also restrics those channals deemed to be 18+ (e.g. Bravo, Sci-Fi or the Pornography channals)
